Description
Here me out. Caps trade down since they still want to win another cup with Ovi. Whoever they pick at 8th overall probably wouldn't be NHL ready for another year or two. Even if its Michkov, he will be in the KHL for at least another season unless they can work some magic. Even their scout said he has the worst character issues they've ever seen. Everyone knows the Caps are going to be awful for years after OVI retires and one good prospect isn't going to change that. So basically let's hemorrhage the future ONE MORE TIME!!!

  1. Crouse, Lawson
  2. 2023 1st round pick (ARI)
ARI
  1. Mantha, Anthony
  2. 2023 1st round pick (WSH)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (MIN)
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Ari moves up for another pick in the top 8. Considering the term left on Crouse's contract I think you need to send the second as well and the 3rd as a sweetener for taking the Mantha contract.
2.
WSH
  1. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Basically a 2nd round pick, which I'd be surprised if the caps get much more for him
CAR
  1. Kuznetsov, Evgeny ($2,800,000 retained)
3.
WSH
  1. Lindholm, Elias
Additional Details:
12th overall seems fair here as he only has one year left on his contract and it seems like every player wants out of Calgary

I hate the idea of trading out of the 8 spot. If we don’t get Michkov, there’s a real chance of getting Ryan Leonard. We’re better off holding onto that pick and using it.

Also, Crouse isn’t an elite player and the only way I’d want the caps to move the eighth pick is if we are getting a young elite player with term or cost control (RFA)

I think Id rather see Alexander play over Stall. Overall not to shabby though

Really hoping CAPS can somehow get Michkov as well since OVI is on his way out.

Caps should be moving up to get Michkov. He grew up idolizing Ovi, and Ovi & caps could help him get to the NHL sooner, they have pull in Russia.

There would be no better place for Michkov to grow and be mentored to become an NHL super star for the next 20 years, just like Ovi.

CAPS should be doing anything they can to get Michkov. If not well we wont win the cup for a very very long time. Give your head a shake plz Brady as I know you want the cup again.

You're not trading the 8th for Crouse. You're trading the 8th for the 12th AND Crouse. Then you flip the 12th for Lindholm

I just feel like that left side is weak without some veteran presence

Why their scout Andrei Nikolishin said he has some of the worst character issues he's ever seen, and there's no guarantee he'd even leave the KHL in 3 years or even at all. And if someone drafts him before the 8th are any of the other prospects really going to drastically help in the next few years?

I see the trade and I’m still not a fan of it at all. That pick is going to be incredibly important to the caps future.

not for us. Kuzy doesnt have great defense and isnt a match for our style of play. He doesnt fit our need for size either as he play like his a 5'8 and 180, we have plenty of perimeter players. Really no need to trade a good asset for Kuzy, who wants out and had a terrible year.

Did you not read that part about how the Cap's Russian Scouts say that Michkov has terrible personality issues? I don't see them taking him, just because someone idolizes someone doesn't mean they get the right to play for the same team as them. Caps fans should be hoping for Dvorsky or Leonard, as they would be on the team in 24-25

There's no guarantee that he even comes over before Ovi retires. What russian player didn't grow up idolizing Ovi? who cares. He seems to have serious character issues

You're putting way too much stock into one prospect. The Caps are going to be awful after Ovi retires. Having one good prospect won't change that. Crouse is 25 and signed for 4 more years at a reasonable cap hit and is coming off a 45 pt season on a terrible team. He also plays a heavy game which fits the caps style of play

I'd have to kick that around considering the retention, but I don't know how Waddell & Tulsky feel about him. Haven't heard them actually linked to interest.

You don't seem to know the draft order...and clearly don't understand the trade. And Lindholm is a great player. Close to ppg player and is great defensively, which is needed for any center that plays with Ovi. Plus he has a criminally low cap hit

I mean, for the record, you don’t seem to know the draft order. The pick you acquired from arizona is the 6th overall pick, not the 12th. I just knew what you meant to do and I still don’t like it.

He’s not elite. The only player on the Coyotes who can fetch a top 10 pick in this draft is Keller. Crouse does nothing but keep the team in mediocrity.

And I think you are significantly undervaluing how good this pick could be for the caps. This is a player who is probably going to be on the roster in 2024-25 and be a high end player as soon as 2025-26. Move the 2024 1st or this years second for whatever the hell you want. Don’t move that pick in this draft. The caps would heavily regret it.

You seem to be ignoring that you're essentially getting lindholm and crouse for the 8th. Theres no guarantee anyone you draft at 8th turns into anything. Where's yakupov these days? How about lafrenierre and kakko, how are they doing? A draft pick is just potential. Crouse and lindholm are proven NHLers who can come in and immediately help Ovi get another cup. Having one potentially high end player on the team after he retires is pretty meaningless since they are going to awful regardless

Nothing is guaranteed. But trading that pick for Lindholm and Crouse is awful asset management. Maybe the caps should just never draft again then? Maybe Chicago should trade that pick since there’s no guarantees, right?

The caps are making this pick and they absolutely should be.

Last 10 8th overall picks
Marco Kasper, Brandt Clark, Jack Quinn, Philip Broberg, Adam Boqvist, Casey Mittelstadt, Alex Nylander, Zach Werenski, William Nylander, Rasmus Ristolainen.

Some very good players but none are franchise altering players. None carry the team. But yeah I'm sure THIS time the caps will draft a generational talent
