K-Dev does every team Volume 4 Buffalo

Created by: KDev
Team: 2023-24 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2023
Published: Jun. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think this is the year Buffalo meets the playoffs. I see 2 large holes on this team. 1 is goaltending. They need to move on from comrie and UPL and find a reliable guy to split the net with Levi. The 2nd hole is #1 or #2 RHD. They have the talent, the depth and all the young guys in the world to find what they are looking for and I think they are a very good bet to make the playoffs.

Strengths: Cap space, goal scoring, LD, high end prospects
Weaknesses: RD, goaltending

Buffalo is ther imho. Not only are they there, but they still have some much room for extensions and additions. I could see them going after a Jarry or better option in net if they wanted to or spend big on a Tarasenko if they think they need another vet in the top 6. This has got to be an extremely exciting time to be a Sabres fan. Again I think they are really a true top 4RD away from being a very serious threat and if I were management I’d do what I could to land Pesce and extend him. Aside from that I mainly just went for defensive depth guys for the bottom 6 and gave them a slight overpayment for the 1 year deal. Fast and Eller should both help immensely on the defensive side so the top 6 can focus on tuning and gunning. Cant wait to see how good this team looks with Rosen, Kulich and Oustlund added to the mix

Sabres fans let me know what you guys think and any feedback you all have

My very very bold prediction: 1st in the Atlantic

Trades
BUF
  1. Pesce, Brett
Additional Details:
Why Carolina does this:

If they can’t resign Pesce they will be forced to move him. Carolina has always had a great D core but they need goals. Olofsson comes in with a 28 goal campaign last year and is pure scorer in that. They also get a young roster player in Krebs who has slowly been getting used to the speed of the NHL and can prove to be a nice elc piece for the Canes as they continue their Stanley cup push. Additionally they get a young goalie UPL that they can use as a starter or in a tandem with Kotchetkov as well as decent 2nd round pick
CAR
  1. Krebs, Peyton
  2. Luukkonen, Ukko-Pekka
  3. Olofsson, Victor
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Why Buffalo does this:

Buffalo is riddled with young talent and they can afford to overpay on a player that will drastically improve them. I genuinely don’t think there is anything in this package they will outright miss. They have even more young guys in the wings ready to push for the nhl anyway and spots will eventually have to open. This trade gives them a true stud defensive defenseman they can pair with Dahlin or Power and he just makes their dcore into a strength.

Krebs is great (not sure why you move him)
UPL is whatever.
Olofsson at full cap hit kills the value of the deal (olof at 50% still brings it down)
2nd round pick is cool

The trade is probably fair as long as it comes along with an extension in place, might be a slight overpay with the 2nd thrown in. I'd rather give up Rosen or Ostlund rather than Krebs. I also don't think the Sabres sign that many UFA forwards as they already have a bunch of forwards under contract, with Jost likely being qualified as an RFA and prospects like Savoie and Kulich possibly making the jump to the NHL.

The issue with Pesce is the extension. Canes would trade him, if he wants too much. But it would be also too much for Sabres going forward.

Pretty reasonable, I think you probably have to swap the second round pick with a top 10 protected in 24, just to bump the value up a bit. I would wanna swap Krebs with mittelstadt, but I would be fine with either to get pesce. Basically, Samuelsson pairs with dahlin and power would pair with pesce. That gives the young first overall picks a legitimate defensive partner to open up their games.

Think the deal is fairly reasonable. Most canes fans aren’t too high on Olof (especially at full cap) or UPL but Krebs is a nice piece.

I don’t think they’d roll UPL Koochie tandem next year so I’d revise trade to Krebs and 23 first and take out the other two pieces. Probably too much for BUF with the first so maybe swap Krebs with a prospect instead.

Totally fine with swapping Krebs for Kulich or Ostlund.

Yes an extension won’t look the best but he’s still on the right side of 30 and his extension will probably be around 6, maybe 6.5. Buffalo has all the cap in the world not even mentioning that the cap is going to shoot up in 2 years. I think as Sabres89 said, it gives both 1st OA dman a solid defensive partner so they can focus on their offense. I wouldn’t let the Pesce extension scare me off because it’s hard to find a player like him to begin with and the team is good enough right now to overpay for him

I get many aren’t a huge fan of Olofsson because he is very 1dimensional but the thing is that dimension is exactly what Carolina has lacked for awhile which is goal scoring depth which is why I felt Carolina would be fine with taking him on especially with the other pieces included.

Don’t see how a 28 goal scorer kills the value to a team looking for goal scorers

If he’s retained on then I think it’s fine for canes to take a flier on him and see if they can figure out how to deploy him. Seems like a PP specialist a la Hoffman 2.0. There’s value there bc of his shot but can you trust him in big games with his skating and defensive deficiencies? If he’s going to be glued to the bench or in the press box during the playoffs it just doesn’t do much for us.

you explained yourself in the other post. He is one dimensional. What kind of players does Carolina not do? 1D players. If you arent committed to playing defense, we have no interest. Add in his spot in the lineup is already taken by Noesen who plays physical, gets dirty goals, at least gives a good effort on D, and costs a 5th of what Olofsson does. Oloffson isnt a target for carolina who even at 50% is still a very expensive 4LW that plays very little 5v5 for us and takes the spot on the PP occupied by Aho.

His age and AAV should not be an issue. But he probably aim at 7/8 years, while perfect scenario for Sabres would 4/5
