I don't think the Hurricanes would deal assets for a goalie considering how voodoo the position is

Dubas declines. The 14th for a rental 3C is brain dead asset management. Much better to package that pick for a 1G or 1LD.

Canes pass. They wouldn’t extend Helle so not worth giving up much. Other teams would be better options to look at.

Leafs aren't giving up a first for an expiring UFA who got a 2nd at the TDL last season when he had 2 years on his contract.

this year is the last year until Nylander and AM34 get raises. i would guess they go all in and Nino can fill the bunting hole and add grit for playoffs

Canes probably need to add. Penguins definitely need to add, a lot. Sabres need to add a tiny bit.

Winnipeg fans are going to be so disappointed with the returns they actually end up getting.

They will be if Chevy wants hockey trades and not futures.

From a WPG Jets fans' perspective...

Chibrikov should NOT be included in any trades.

The rest are not overly inspiring.

Dubas isn't adding piss. Scheifele is the 3C on PIT. He's not a top priority so if he isn't coming at good value then you can keep him and let him walk in UFA for nothing.

That doesn't mean Nino is worth a 1st...

Goalies don’t carry almost ppg RW this past season with contract control levels anyways and we add? Good one

Are you saying a 70 pt forward is more valuable than a top 3 goalie in the world?

He would play wing and it would be a great add. Lets you slide Rust down to the third line or put Rakell on the off wing. You are getting a guy who has been at a point per game since 2016 and just scored 42 goals for just a 3 mill cap hit. That is a huge win for the Pens.

Scheifele is the 1RW on Pittsburgh. Just because your team is deep at a position doesn't mean you get a discount on acquiring star players. The point is not whether he fits in Pittsburgh but that it will take a lot more for us to trade him.

Not at that return it isn't. Not unless he is signing a favorable extension.

One of them is a goalie which already lowers typical value. The same will be 31 at the time of his extension and likely cost 10% of the cap while declining the entire contract. Said goalie has been used more than any other goalie and may not hold up as long as others, making 2 worse.

Then other player is 23, still on a bridge deal with control afterwards, and hasn’t peaked yet nor decline through the length of his next contract.

Yes necas has more value, by a good amount.

Really simple; TRADE HIM TO ANOTHER TEAM! Or just let him walk for nothing in UFA. At least Winnipeg will be on a similar rebuild time frame as Pittsburgh. Just without any of the success.

it's a mid first and a back up goalie. It absolutely is a good move.

It's the best draft pick PIT has had in 11 years. Maybe the best value since 2007 given how strong this draft is relative to 2012. If traded it needs to be used on a necessity not a luxury.

It's good value, but it's also a moot point. The pick isn't getting traded unless a young cost controlled player comes back. Dubas has said this a few times. So while I like this deal, it unlikely to happen at best.
