fresh take on some common ideas

Description
Minten and McMichael would be good adds to round out the forward pool. Pickering, while we have a lot of LHD, is highly rated enough that I think he'd be a nice addition, and could allow us to move someone like vlasic/allen/del mastro down the line for a bigger piece. In this scenario I'd draft:

1. Connor Bedard
19. Gabe Perrault
28. Oliver Bonk
35. Bradly Naduea
44. Oskar Fisker Molgaard
51. Beau Akey

Unless PIT thinks Pickering will be a complete bust, that's gonna be a no from Dubas.

That is an incredibly easy no for the caps

He's a relatively decent 2LD prospect. Nothing special. Just Petry being traded would require another move to replace him even if he is a bit overpaid. He's not a bad player and PIT isn't in a terrible predicament with the cap like Boston.

How highly do the caps value mcmichael? I know the bears just won the calder cup and he had a decent season, 40 points in 60, but thats not exactly lighting the world on fire. Curious if you guys think hes a top 6 guy in the nhl

Why would leafs doc this? We can sign equivalent to (or better than) Murphy at similar cap hit via FA; no need. To burn valuable assets. Murray will be bought if the price to move is too steep

Based on dubas' presser I dont think this will happen now but I always thought in principle a petry-murphy swap could make a lot of sense made a lot of sense if the pens were willing to give up the assets to get the cheaper younger dman

Interesting ideas, I'm guessing TOR does not want Murphy's contract.

When people look at Caps prospects playing for the Bears you have to remember Bears care more about winning than developing. It takes 2-3 years before they let a young kid get big minutes in the top 6. McMichael got 2C and 2PP unit time when he should have been #1C. Also, Bears coach is notoriously defensive, proven by their point totals in their Cup win. McMichael looks like he'll be a 55-65 point 2C in the NHL. In his first stint with the Caps he was their best possession player. Only if Laviolette didn't hate kids he would have been in the NHL all last season.

I'd be willing to retain on it if TML had literally any other futures at all

There's already one retention slot tied up for 2yrs, I think retaining for 3yrs on Murphy would require one hell of a return.

I think the hawks target Perrault but I doubt he’s there at 19, they would probably need for trade up to get him
