move miller keep lindrgen

Created by: MAGA
Team: 2023-24 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 23, 2023
Published: Jun. 23, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would hate to see miller go but his price will do nothing but hurt the rangers. Get what you can for him now while his value and ceiling is high. Rather use that $ for lindgren extend.
Moving miller, and either buyout goodrow or find trade, will open up enough space for drury to work up a more "win now" team.

Dont do that and be mediocre, hopefully make playoffs for another 1st round exit.

Igor 5.6M contract window closing. Massive $$$ going his way next contract/

Unless you're willing to do a Zachary Jones- Jack Drury deal... I don't think the Hurricanes are willing to deal Drury unless it's part of a larger pattern

I mean Lindgren’s deal after next year will probably be $5m+

I love Lindgren, but if we are talking long-term, Miller is the 1LD

Lindgren's next contract will age similarly as Dan Girardi's did. Love the guy, but his style of play does not lead to longevity as a top 4 defenseman. Miller is the one to keep, Lindgren is the one to sell high while you still can.

Agreed. As much as a fan favorite Lindgren is, you could easily find another one of him in the draft or free agency

Miller was part of the top pairings in the league with goals against. A bridge deal is what i hope they give him. No more than 4M. Just dont want to see rest of the lineup lack because they choose to keep him. I guess its a good problem choosing between the 2. Ive been a rangers fan a long time, hate when they give defensemen massive deals just to buy them out in years to come.

IDK, I wouldnt want to see the Lidgren/Fox pairing break up. They compliment and support each other so well

Wouldnt move jones for him. There are plenty 4th line centers to fill that spot

Yeah while playing with Trouba... he's also still pretty young and has room to grow. He seems like the type of player that will thrive under the new coaching staff. Sometimes the mentality you have with his contract is what has been wrong with the NYR for so long. How many times have we bridged players where there second contract ended up hurting us by them either leaving or NYR overpaying??

Zucc*3, Stepan, Kreider*2, DeAngelo, JT Miller*2, Hayes*2, Girardi *2, Staal (should've signed for 8, not 5), Strome, Buchnevich, Fast, Hagelin, Stralman...

In order to really build a championship team, you need to sometimes bet on young players. You overpay them the first year or two, and by years 6-8 the contract is an absolute steal. MacKinnon, Barkov, Hughes, Thompson, Pastrnak, Draisaitl, etc. all signed 6+ year deals (most right after ELCs) that are or will end up being steals.

I hear what youre saying but you cant compare miller to those names lol. Im all for keeping him if the number doesnt force rangers to move other important young players.

Take a look through these advanced stats, Miller/Trouba were complete liabilities last season. Ill put the blame on $8M trouba but for someone that has so much promise and fans say he deserves so $4-6M per, he shouldnt be on the ice for so many goals against. No excuse.

Are you really willing you pay $5/6m+ for Lindgren just because him and fox have good chemistry?

Lindgren is good at defense and is a warrior, but his potential is what it’s at meanwhile KAM has way more room to grow. You can’t teach his speed and size lol

The Lindgren Fox pairing is great, but Gallant was too stubborn to try Lindgren with Trouba to give a better top 4 pair

I think they could lock lindgren up long term for less than 5 per. And again, I agree that Miller can become a beast. I also think he needs a whole lot of learning and can easily become a liability. Just don’t want them to throw important $ at him at the cost of losing one or 2 of lindgren Schneider, kk or laf.
At the end of the day, the trouba contract hurts and is a horrible problem.

Also, rangers need that warrior mentality. Too many soft players with talent.

I’d be shocked if Lindgren takes under $5m unless he absolutely loves it here. Defensemen way worse than Lindgren are getting huge paydays and he’s arbitration eligible

Hockey is a team sport. Teams play defense. The Rangers forwards pretty much ignored that for most of the last two seasons, so putting it all on the D corp is pretty silly. Miller, on his own, was great for most of the year. Considering his age and number of years playing the position (since he started as a forward), he has been awesome and that's why every GM in the league would take him in a heartbeat.

Sure KAM had a down year, but you seem to forget about him last year, having one of the best defensive sticks we've ever had. Easy choice KAM

No I don’t forget that. I rather keep him at an affordable price. I just feel lindgrens absence was felt more than millers. The giveaways by Miller/trouba were noticeable and they gave up the most goals. Fox/Lindgren are a top pairing in the league.

Yes Miller has a great chance at being a top 2 dman, but if they’re in a win now mentality then moves need to be made
