Granlund To Chicago And Carter Trade Idea

Created by: edeangel84
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 25, 2023
Published: Jun. 25, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Carter idea could be an interesting way to get rid of him by sending him somewhere that can eat the whole salary and buy him out. He can be bought out but it costs 100% of his salary. I am in love with the idea of taking on Campbell and getting another 1st.

You’d get a free 2nd rounder for eating one year of a bad salary.

My understanding is thanks to Hextall front loading Carter's contract, he offers no cap or salary relief to the team that buys him out. Given ANA isn't contending this season, it makes little sense for them- or probably any team- to buy him out.

I’ve seen Granlund to Chicago a lot and 90% of your offers make me want to shoot my eyes out

Hawks are not eating 2 years of Granlund for essentially a 4th. Attach the value of a highish 2nd and the Hawks might bite....otherwise good luck

Why? They can eat 3 million for one season. It’s an easy yes unless Carter says no to leaving.

For one season and you get a 2nd. The 3M barely dents your massive cap space.

A 3rd for a 7th is easily worth 10M. It’s not like Chicago is loaded with good centers either.

Why would Carter waive? And why would a team by him out? It costs them more to buy him out and get a cap min. player than just play him or scratch him.

Because Anaheim doesn’t need him and he won’t play there. He gets to be a UFA and go wherever he wants. All they have to do is pay his salary this season and get a 2nd next year for their “troubles”.

Edit: And if he doesn’t want out of here then obviously this isn’t happening.

you guys have a point, but you have to understand and make peace with the fact that CHI is going to be irrelevant for the next 2-3 years at leas while you guys are rebuilding. getting assets to take on ****ty players and contracts, that might bounce back and become assets that can be traded for at the tdl should be your objective. plus sucking in the regular season to get another superhigh pick. imo

They’re moving up 105 spots in the draft. That’s worth 5M a year for 2 years. And they don’t have any better centers aside from Bedard.

I think he would have to have interest from a actual contender to agree to wave, get bought out, then sign with that contender. Otherwise, there's no incentive for him to agree to waive. I'm also quite skeptical a team like Anaheim is willing to just throw away dead money on a buyout. A rebuilding team should just play him because they have nothing to lose. He's the perfect player to tank with.

for the edm deal I'd change it a bit.

if you believe in campbell id do:

edm gives up: campbell + 1st rounder

pitt: gives up desmith

the rest make no sense for pit, Poehling is much better than Archibald and will be cheap and we should keep him. for smith I'd trade him too for 2 3rds and kulak is another rutta...

Why play him when they have a lot of young forwards? Eat the salary and take a pick that’s probably around 50tg next year. If I’m Florida or Tampa and I can get him for a million for only next season what’s the risk?

I get the Hawks will suck for several years. There are a finite number of 5 million a season cap dumps the Hawks (or available in the entire league) can take. You want to pay #44OA and a future 4th like Ottawa did with Zaitsev, the Hawks will gladly help. You want to lowball your problems away, it won't be to the Hawks.

With that 3.125 added, we would likely have less than 10 million after we sign all of our RFA’s and a UFA or two

You’re going to make a trade or two as well. I’m guessing Nashville like STL looks to trade a 1st and you have players to sell like Henrique, Vatrano, or even Strome.

I offered you a chance to move up 105 spots in this draft. I don’t even see how this isn’t a no brainier.

it's not about what the pens are doing here... let's take this example: let's say that the 3rd is enough indeed, or maybe add another 4th. now the hawks have two extra picks/assets they wouldn't have otherwise plus a decent veteran that can: 1. be a leader to the younger guys 2. be sold again if he has a decent season. in this scenario with him playing more and top line minutes, points will increase so will value. maybe you trade him at this years TDL with 50% retention for another 3rd or more (2nd) to a contender. or maybe wait the next trade deadline and do the same gaining more assets.

and what if he suck? well doesn't matter to chi anyway. you still gained some assets for the transaction in the first place and you are supposed to suck. and that has to be the mentality. do as much of this as they can... if I was chi I would look at all of these bad contracts and try to acquire them trying to gain as many assets as possible.

I think we keep all three

We just have Strome and Vatrano multi year deals last off season so trading them wouldn’t be wise and Vatrano exceeded expectations so why would we move him

If Nashville offered you the Edmonton 1st they have and Fabbro for Strome would you take it?
