Detroit would do this if Debrincat comes with an extension at a reasonable AAV. Since he's from Michigan he probably would.

Thinking 7-8 years x $8.5

Hey may want more than that if he is signing a max deal. He has a skill set to be a point per game player and has already picked up multiple 40 goal seasons (even the season he had 32, he only played 56 games) He will likely be looking to get 9 or maybe even more.

Would think Ottawa would want someone other than Johansson. Like us, they're fine at LD.

I think Yzerman will want to make a statement about contracts. Larkin’s is at 8.75 so I don’t see DeBrincat making much more than that. Yzerman doesn’t like longer term deals, so I feel like DeBrincat won’t get both term and top dollar (8 years x $9.5). DeBrincat being a Michigan guy could take a slight “hometown” discount, where he hovers around the Larkin range

I agree with one caveat. I think Larkin is Stevie Y's internal salary cap, he'd offer Debrincat less say 8-8.25 mil AAV.

Yes, that was my original comment. I think Yzerman would be at $8.5. Tough to get people to come to Detroit if the money isn’t being offered but for DeBrincat, he’s from Michigan so maybe he (Cat) is willing to come down a bit.

Time will tell, but the rumour is he wants out of Canada and wants 9.5 annually. So we will see what happens. I mean some players take home team discounts to keep the team competitive while hunting the cup. That isn't the Redwings right now. It will be fun to watch what transpires over the next couple weeks.
