Not nearly enough retention for that kind of return on Karlsson. If that’s the price I hope we stay far away. Adding Marchment in the deal makes no sense and it just creates another hole in the lineup

I didnt think it made a ton of sense either as I thought they liked him, but I assume it was for cap reasons. I think it makes more sense to trade for worthless cap, but not sure who that would be on dallas

Seems controversial but I thought I was giving them a pretty good deal to get outta that awful Grandlund deal. Its possible people still think he will turn it around I guess

Yeah since it’s the 24 pick and it’s top 10 protected. Barabanov is absolutely the winger the pens need. Very cheap contract for the production he brings. Can play 3rd line but bump up to top 6 if injuries occur. For that production in free agency it probably gonna cost twice that contract. And gives the pens a head start on contract extension talks.

I just answered this in my response to your other response. Lmao. Faksa and Suter would be the cap we would likely be looking to move. But both players have some form of trade protection and I don’t see them wanting to go to a rebuilding team. If you could find a way to get Suter and Faksa going to SJ and a little retention on EK…. I’d be way more willing to part with better prospects

What is good about Barb? He doesn't seem to be a top 6 guy to me. He would rank 7th on the Pens in expected goals for forwards, right above Carter. He doesn't hit. He isn't a great possession guy, ranking 8th on the Pens. He would be an upgrade defensively but so would half the league.

Sometimes numbers don't tell the whole story, am I missing something?

SCOUTING REPORT
The creative winger is not a shoot-first player, but he does good work in helping his team get into the offensive zone and keeping the puck there. He works hard, plays a solid two-way game and can play up in the lineup as someone who can get the puck to teammates in good position to score. He is best when he does not try to do too much with the puck.
