Are fans that ill informed? The Leafs have no reason to trade Nylander. He's under contract for another season. If he becomes a UFA in 2024, he will just join the dozens of other UFASs.
Why would the Leafs want seven years of Miller at 8m? Rather have Willy for a year and cap space summer of 2024.

If Nylander is traded, it's probably for a upcoming ufa defender+ or an RFA like Necas.

I don't. But why do some folks write nonsense. If signing Nylander now is so important , why do the Canucks make the deal?
Since upcoming Matthews isn't signed yet.....shouldn't he be traded too?
Shouldn't the 100 upcoming UFAs in summer of 2024 since they haven't been resigned by their current teams.

TOR won’t do that. Miller may be slightly cheaper, but I think Nylander is better value overall.

Willy is great, but trading Miller would mean that our 2C is Nils Aman

No they don’t. Look at their roster. Removing Miller leaves a massive hole. A hole already pretty big after trading Horvat. They don’t want to run Nils Aman as their 2C

Why? Who's centers the 2nd line if we trade Miller? and what do we do with all the wingers we already have too many of?

I'd take it (assuming Nylander can go back to centre)

Adding Nylander leaves other wingers expendable. Look at Garland, Beauvillier, and/or Boeser as potential moves if this were to occur. In those moves, we clear enough cap space to target two quality middle-six centers, as well as leaving enough room to mend the defense. A move in which we get the younger and better player is one you need to make, rather than paying Miller 8 million until he is 38.

UFA class sucks, and we don’t have the assets to acquire a legit top 6 center by trade

It would appear we are already having trouble trying move Garland, Beauvillier and/or Boeser. It sounds like Pearson will be ready to play at the start of the season as well, we have too many wingers. As far as centers, how do you propose we find 2 quality middle-six centers? Nylander will likely want $8M or more anyways, we need Miller more than Nylander.

Some combination of O'Reilly, Compher, Rodrigues, etc would be perfectly fine as our middle-six centers, especially since they would be surrounded with play driving wingers. The Hall move today outlines what a potential cap dump situation would look like for the Canucks with any of those players. IMO we would sign Nylander to a similar AAV to Miller, then use the 8 million from Beau and Garland cap dumps to sign the centermen. That leave about 7 million to sign Soucy and Schenn, or similar value defensemen.
