The 2023 1st would have been the Florida 1st (31st Overall).
Hoffman and Armia go to WPG at 50% retained salary, to where the Jets subsequently buy out Armia.

By the way, that Newhook trade is horrible, and if I were a Habs fan I would be beyond pissed.

They did get a nice haul from LA, can't argue with that.

Jets really used the PLD Habs situation as leverage. Jets definitely cleaned up in the trade. As a Habs fan, I've never felt so used. Oooooof

The Jets didn't want a full futures deal, so devaluing the picks by adding two cap dumps was most likely never an option.

you have a lot to learn then. Newhook is a skilled player who will see much more than 13 mins a game in montreal. Hes only 22 and will be signed to a value contract. Increased minutes and natural growth will make him a versatile player who could play on any of the top 3 lines.

How much do you figure Newhook gets annually on his next contract? Because if it's under $4.29 mil/yr then the Habs could have just submitted an Offer Sheet, and if they won it would've only cost them a 2nd round pick as compensation.
Or, if you assume he gets between $4.3-$6.4 mil/yr, then the compensation would have been a 1st and 3rd.
If I have a lot to learn about Newhook, then you have a lot to learn about asset management via the Offer Sheet.

no you have to learn about the value of NHLers below 25. You should also learn that offer sheets are not employed under normal conditions by NHL gms. "asset management via offer sheet" does not exist as the only offer sheet that has succeeded in the last 15 years was an act of pure revenge. Montreal also does not even have their 2nd rounder so that tier would be impossible for them. He will sign a 3-4 year deal around 2.8-3.2 AAV

They wanted players under contract. Probably Dach + Anderson.

Jets still "sold" on PLD. The hope is that Vilardi will be one day as good as PLD... we'll see if that happens, but it's definitely lost value for the Jets. PLD can play #1C role responsibly with two good forwards but Vilardi might never be able to do that.

How can you say that an young player with only two season experience is an flop when he have does 30 pts on 82 on fourth line average time playing. Newhook didn't have show 100% of what is able to do. In Colorado he play mostly on the fourth like and sometime on the third line.

On first two month he's averaging an 14 minutes to 15 minutes per match, the next two month he's averaging something between 12 minute to 19 minutes ( probably because of the injury) the rest of the season he go somewhere between 6 minutes to 18 minutes but Mostly near the 8 to 12 minutes. Has almost 0 pp time and get few minutes on the pk.

At same time avalanche roster is hard to crack up as there alot of talent there. Newhook will have more ice time with mtl and much much time on special unit. Like Martin St-Louis have say Newhook bring versatility. He can play center as much as LW and he's still young fit with the core group.

Could Montreal select good player with #31 and #37 ?
Absolutely I have good player prospect around this number guys like goaltender Hrabral or Augustine to name only them but there still way to get an draft pick with some other trade asset.

Mtl could go back with #5 as there alot of talk about Nashville and Philadelphia that wanted Michkov they could offer Montreal more then two pick to advance and select the player they wanted.
