Since Dorian already said he wasn’t getting a 1st for Cat, a 2nd or 3rd is it, you’d better hope the offer above actually comes through.

You mispelled "2023 2nd round pick (DET)"

It's 2023 1st round pick (NYI)

And looking at the PLD trade... return could be even better than this

He never said that. the TSN article you read that from who was written by "a TSN staff" is wrong. here's what he actually said: https://youtu.be/wjbLKFxxL1A

If only Cat was a big, 6’4 top 6 center.

Well watch it and read it again all the was said is that he's not interested in picks but in players.

He also said he didn’t see his team getting into the 1st round this yeaR, and that a 2nd or 3rd was a possibility, and that was during his answer on Cat.

Just in case you didn’t read it (and obviously you didn’t), here is Garrioch’s article: https://ottawasun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/ottawa-senators/the-ottawa-senators-are-looking-to-move-on-from-winger-alex-debrincat

Pierre LeBrun recently said that Detroit is no longer the front runners for DeBrincat, so.
The return could certainly not include a '23 pick, but a decent prospect.
Now, I haven't heard it, so this is moreso hearsay, but

Yes he doesn't see himself making a move to get a first round pick. but he could trade up to the 3rd or second round. This means he's not interested in a first round pick Just like Winnipeg. The other statement means he could trade up draft picks. not trade a player for draft picks.

Idk how more clear we need to be. We're trying to compete NOW. we cant wait for those draft picks to join the team in a year or two. if a trade is to be done with Detroit it will be roster players for roster players.

Which is probably where the issue of getting a first for Cat comes in. WSH isn’t giving up 8OA, NSH is already on the rebuild path, maybe CAR gives up #30, but they need Cs, not Ws, DAL doesn’t have a 1st this year. Would SEA give up 20, or STL 25? STL needs Cs, and Seattle needs prospects. Plus, Cat isn’t guaranteed to sign an extension with anyone. So no one is giving up a 1st without an extension at their price. And in a flat cap, everyone is having cost issues.

Teams can certainly move capital; or even more likely, Ottawa can just gamble that they can get a better return at the TDL and can offer retention if need be.
My guess is that's what happens.
Here's The article.

"Detroit has been seen as the logical landing spot for Alex DeBrincat by some — and Detroit was on his list of teams — but my sense of the situation Tuesday was the Red Wings didn’t feel they were that close on a deal with Ottawa. I know DeBrincat had Dallas as one of his preferred destinations, as well, and the Stars have had conversations with Ottawa about DeBrincat. But given the Stars’ cap situation, they would need to move some money out somehow. It’s not likely the Stars can do it. The’re also still talking to pending UFA Max Domi."

If only Cat didn't have 58 more goals and 71 more points in the NHL (same age, same draft)

That being said, my point was not even to compare them but to say that PLD landed a pretty good return despite what the "experts" around here have been blablating for months. You guys crack me up
