I think CLB would be willing to do that for sure. CAL fans will hate it, but they also thought they would get the moon for Toffoli. Lindholm is a great player, but he's gonna be on the wrong side of 30 in his first year of an extension.

Not realistic. If Lindholm doesn't stay with the Flames they'll get better offers from multiple teams.

The Toffoli trade is just fine. A player like Sharangovich is exactly what they needed. Still young with size speed a good shot and the ability to play all 3 forward positions though he's not very good on faceoffs. Could be the perfect winger to get Huberdeau going again. When in the top 6 playing with Hughes he put up comparable numbers to Toffoli's career averages.

Everybody overvalues players. No shot the Jackets would give up Johnson or the 3rd overall for Lindholm and that's what Flames fans seem to think could happen. Heck, some trades even have them giving up KJ AND 3oa which is comical. That is an unrealistic trade.

If the Flames get better offers from multiple teams, they should take them. The only way I see that happening is with a sign and trade and can get Lindholm in the $7M range but more than likely he is going to want $8M plus. Lindholm is good and will be a good 2nd line center or fringe 1st line center. However, he is pushing 30 and that next contract may not age well (depending on what it is).

Thanks for your input!

For the most part yes, Columbus fans for instance certainly overvalue their players and picks including Johnson and the 3rd OA pick. They're valuable but aren't worth what Columbus fans think they are.

Fair but Lindholm isn't worth what Flames fans think he is worth either.

At the end of the day, the price like everything else, is what the other team is willing to pay. So any Flames fan trade proposal will be hated by Jackets fans and any Jackets fan trade proposal will be hated by Flames fans. Just the nature of the beast.

I didn't mind the return for Toffoli. It's easy to forget that he probably isn't going to replicate last season's numbers year after year from now on, even with top linemates, and was a UFA to be who wanted out anyway. Maybe Sharangovich and a 2nd would have been nicer, or Holtz and a 3rd or 4th, but it wasn't bad.

I'll disagree with Mox on the 3rd OA not being as valuable as a "non-tradeable asset", say ... after Bedard, the next few picks at least are predicted to yield "franchise players", and those don't get traded usually for 30 year old players unless it is a "win the cup this year or next" need.

On the other hand, a team needing a top six center who is good enough to be a number one (let's face it, the players didn't enjoy last season, for the most part. Several took a dip on that account), and is looking to win in the next few years, would get a premium asset in Lindholm, a dual threat who can score goals, play bumper on the power play, is as defensively responsible as anyone.. he'll be worth more than three or four average assets.
