Dubas win for sure. Hard to complain about this, based on the aquistion cost.

But adding another 32 year old, to an already aging team is interesting.

I bet Dubas adds a lot more youth coming up. I still think he should take a swing for Debrincat.

That's a great deal. Dont really like the AAV on Smith but that's a great add for pretty cheap. LETS SEE MORE DUBAS!

Horrible trade for Vegas, why did they trade a misfit? Martinez is right there, I'm sure they could have made it work

He is 32 but has been durable, doesn't seem like a guy on the verge of breaking down. But yeah, overall PIT is an old roster. That's gotta be concerning in the long term.

Smith has 10 team NTC protection. PIT was probably the only one that could afford him and Smith would go to. Dubas robbed them for sure. Smith has played like a top line winger.

Exactly my point. They forced a trade for weak value when they could have kept the quality player and trade someone else with a higher cap hit instead

Guessing they wanted to extend Barbashev.

And even if hes older, hes still a very good skater, so unless he falls of a cliff which he should not, the contract and age won't be an issue

Don’t hold your breath, Dubas just filled the lone remaining spot in his top six with Smith. No spot for Cat now, not to mention Dubas said he won’t be chasing big deals like that.

I doubt Dubas said that. He probably said something on the lines of "don't expect a big deal". That's managing expectations. But I am sure Dubas is talking to a lot of GMS about ALOT of things. Big and small.

Okay. If you were given the option of trading two firsts and Pickering for Cat or a 3rd round pick for Smith, what would you do? I’d bet he did ask Ottawa about Debrincat and that’s why we have Smith. Dubas just did the smart thing and filled his top six by spending only a third rounder.
