Any retention on Savard makes zero sense. The contract is good. Dvorak term would be tough to move tho

I am not so sure it is an overpay, although it might seem like it at first glance:
1. He has 5 years left on his contact, so they have him for their potential window and then need to sign him for another year
2. He is 25 years old
3. He scored 86 points in Arizona at age 24. I think he is a 100 point guy
4. Montreal has allegedly rounded out their defense corps with Reinbacher (I did not like it, but still), so the draft picks are easier to let go when you acknowledge that you are taking on a guy that has all teh other attributes above.
5. If Montreal hits on Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, Newhook, Guhle and Reinbacher those picks in the later years (2025 onward) get into the 20s hopefully.

This could solidify their forward lines for at least 5 years.

If a 100 pint guy is available at his age (and I know it is a BIG "IF") then don't be afraid to swing for a home run.

Here is my question, though: If Montreal stays the course of building through the draft, who could they realistically get that would be better than Keller, who is quite young?

If they do not get Cellebrinni, Eiserman or Demidov next year or Misa or Hagens or Spence in 2025, then who are they getting that could be as good as Keller (and there is no guarantee that any of them will be as good as Keller)?

Take a look at the top 6 forwards and top 4 defensemen (all 25 or younger) and think whether that team could not be cohesive and very competitive (not in the mushy middle) in 3 to 4 years?

Heck, they could sign a good free agent goalie and be Cup contenders in 3 to 4 years, with the core all being 29 years old and under.

If they can get Keller for less, then obviously do it, but someone like him does not potentially become available very often (if he is available).

Protect one or two of the picks if Arizona will accept, sure.

How much could Montreal remove from this trade and still get Keller in your opinion?

Debrincat doesn't have a contract and has all the leverage in negotiating one. Apples and oranges

damn, you sure got there. we would only get a 78 point winger and 40 goal scorers. my whole arguement has completly falled down because of your quick wits.

Why so p***y? We weren't getting any of the top 4 C's, Michkov supposedly told teams he was only signing with a few teams and Reinbacher is a great RHD prospect which we desperately need. Also we aren't going to be a playoff team next year so have a shot at Celebrini or Eiserman anyway. We had a need which lined up better with who was still available then just drafting a forward for the sake of drafting someone

He scored 86 points in Arizona, without a ton of help around him. DeBrincat has a career gigh of 78 points.

Plus Keller is locked up for 5 more years, whereas DeBrincat is a free agent in a year. So that significantly increases Keller's value/lowers DeBrincat's value.

As I have said a few times above, I am all for Montreal including less, but I think they should do whatever they can to get a player with 100 point potential, because the odds of drafting one in the next few years are not great.

Who would you remove from the trade??

My question is: why do we need to keep adding forwards before trying out the ones we have? Maybe Keller wouldn't gel well and we give up all those assets. I'm just speaking in hypotheticals here but the Dach's, the Newhook's, they cost less than every 1st we have. We're also not a Keller away from being relevant and I don't think we need to be making big splashes like that until we're sure (or more sure) what the main roster is going to look like going forward. Still too many questions, gotta let the kids cook a lil bit imo.

i would remove everyone and not do the trade. rebuilding team dont trafe their whole future.for a winger. if your bottom 5 you have a better chance at getting one and developping him. dont look so far ahead on who is available next year. the top 10 will be completely different. will smith was and no one radar to be a first round pick even.

im just saying you should not spend all this on a 80 point winger because there will be cheaper opputnities thant, debrincat for exemple. i know why he will be cheaper to acquire and why keller would be more expensive, but its better to acquire the less expensive one when you are.rebuilding.

I am disappointed, but not p***y about the Reinbacher pick.

My point is actually that the defense should be set, so why not get the 25 year old forward who is locked up for 5 years at a great rate, especially when he could round out the forward lines?? Guys like that are not available very often (if he is) and probably has at least 6 to 7 very good years left in him.

I am building off of the Reinbacher acquisition now that it is done.

We might land Eiserman or Cellebrini or Misa, or we might not. Who knows how those guys will turn out?

The thing that we know is that Keller is elite.

Feel free to remove whatever you want from the trade on Montreal's side, as long as Arizona agrees.
