Even if Laughton was worth the 1st and the 2nd Vancouver isn’t doing that because there’s no value coming back for garland.

He doesn't have value, like at all. Players with better numbers and similar contracts being traded for 6th round picks or getting traded half retained for nothing kinda shows where the market is set. The value for salary cap is ridiculously high, to the point quality guys like Duchene are getting bought out.

If VAN didn't have a worse contract to buy out (OEL), it's fairly likely Garland would've ended up getting the axe, especially since his buyout is pretty cheap.

I would much rather trade Konecny for picks and prospects insteaf of Debrincat and I can't see him signing with another bottom feeder team.

You can also trade Cat for picks and prospects. Should he find his game with Philly, you'd likely get even better haul for him that TK.

I don't think I'd give up a 2nd alone for Laughton. And I wouldn't mind him as a 3c. 1st and 2nd is horrible value.

I kinda agree to a point, but that goes in line with the reported value. Based on what I've read, PHI is not moving Laughton without 1st going their way, and GMs do like him as a player quite a lot.

I can't see him rebounding on a worse team in Philly and Konecny probably has more value right now than Debrincat since he got 2 more years on a team friendly contract and had a better season on a worse team.

What an awful trade for the Canucks. They give up the better player, add a 1st and 2nd, and barely save any salary. Easy decline

That’s where I think you’re wrong, Garland is still only 27 and you will be hard pressed to find a 50 point guy for 5m in the prime of his career with how poor this free agent class is. Garland isn’t that different from konecny, and his salary is slightly less.

Given the right team I could see giving up the 30th pick or something. But he isn't a great player by any means.

I am so happy that some of you have actual no real power because this just destroys this team.

I kinda agree, the value is pretty bad. That's what I kinda expect Laughton to get though, based on the recent reports - 1st rounder, cap dump and a 2nd.

Geez. I actually think Garland is a decent player, but the market is what it is. Reilly Smith is contract wise probably the most comparable player to Garland that has been recently traded, and he's coming off a Stanley Cup winning season. He got a 3rd. I fail to see any reason why Garland would get more - I'm pretty sure should VAN move him this offseason they won't get anything in return.

If you think his value is comparable to Konecny...you're going to be extremely disappointed.

You’re overvaluing konecny a lot then. Garland and konecny are almost the exact same player with konecny producing slightly better offensively while garland is slightly cheaper. If garland is worth a 3rd konecny might get you a 2nd but he sure won’t get you debrincat

Sure, the different between 46 points in 81 games and 60 points in 61 games is around 30 selections...
