Whoever pays Bertuzzi that tomorrow is going to be fired within a few years.

Avs maybe do that for Toews, never in a million years for Byram.

That package is better than what they'd get if Byram was Offer-Sheeted which is very likely this offseason as the Avs have very little cap space

lol, Canucks don't have cap either. Byram would have to sign that o.s and the Nucks aren't anywhere close to playoffs contenders. End of the day, Avs match that and laugh that it was only 7m.

Exactly. Avs will match any offer sheet and then make the trades necessary to keep Byram on the squad. Also, it's either going to be a bridge deal for about 4-5 or a big boy deal for about 8-10.

They also seem to neglect they have Petey open for an OS next summer. Would hate for a winner to snag their 1c...

Byram isn't worth $8-10M. I bet they can have him for 6 years at $6.5-7M. But, yeah, the "He'll just get OS'd" is fan-generated nonsense trying to justify low-value trades.

Not right now he isn't. But if he progresses this year, that's going to be his long-term deal. If I were his agent, I'd beg for that bridge contract so that he can really get his money in 2-3 years.

An $7x8 year offer sheet (if signed/accepted by Byram and not matched by the Avs) would be a package of four (!) 1st round picks getting sent over. And the Avs would easily match anything less for Byram

Yes, in a non-flat cap environment in 2-3 years, he will likely be worth that much but I thought we were talking about right now; you said he'd "either" sign a bridge or long-term. Maybe we're thinking of "bridges" differently but most bridge deals are 1-3 years, not 4-5. I think he'd be okay with a balanced approach: 6x$6.5 now (for financial security) then become a UFA when he's 28 and sign a mega-deal; that give both sides a bit of what they want. It'll be interested to see how both sides approach it and what he ends up signing.

Yep - it would have to be a serious overpay to get him on an OS plus the team making the OS would have to have all those picks plus the space to add the player. That's one of the big reasons OS's rarely happen, especially with big-time players: the cost is simply too high. It would be shocking to see anyone attempt an OS on Byram much less have him sign it and he actually moves. Plus, the Avs would have a backup plan in that case: just re-sign Toews.

Oh I meant a 1-3 year deal at 4-5 million. We're on the same page. I would LOVE a 6 and 6.5. That would be a steal in my eyes.
