What? Gibson sucks now.

Gibson is a top 15 goalie in the league who happens to play for a very bad team for many years.

goalies are voodoo. It feels a little high to me, but who knows...

Yeah, it's a bit high, but there weren't rly any other options, not the end of the world (like the Graves deal....)

You probably would have said the same thing about Bobrovsky 3 months ago...

Bob isn't *that* bad, but he's vastly overpaid and a 12 game stretch where he went on a heater doesn't change my opinion of him. Any goalie can get hot, Jarry is just as likely as Bob is just as likely as Gibby to get insanely hot at the right time

an unfortunate overpay with considerable term. flashes of greatness have been his saving grace but his consistency and continued health are a concern. worried this will stand up as a hard to move signing, akin to that of Martin Jones in SJ and John Quick in LA.

I would do a "your mom" joke about the likeliness of Jarry to get insanely hot, but mods are very strict about keeping it boring around here, so I won't.

Jarry was extended after a contract year of underachieving and injuries. The extension is presently too much and too long. Jarry can prove himself by playing like a Vezina Trophy winning goaltender. Make it happen.

When your team plays bad too long, then the goaltender may not be that much of an elite goaltender.

Or, maybe it is that Anaheim just don't have a respectable roster, aside of the goaltender, since 2019, which coincidentally is when Gibson was the best goalie in the league based on saves above expected.

The Buffalo Sabres from past seasons make a great case study for saves above expected. Allowing 40 to 50 shots every game every season creates reasons for debating great and elite goaltending.

Feels like Jack Campbell in EDM 2.0. He will show flashes, but the team will question the contract every year. They won't be able to trade it for a while. Meanwhile, Freddy Anderson got 2x3.4m. Given PITs timeline, which contract would you rather have?

But if you are Anderson, in which team would you rather be? He made the right choice, and PIt got cornered into overpaying to keep Jarry..

Not happy about this at all. Huge overpay and term is pretty long for a guy that’s injured a lot. Hope it pans out
