Big pass from the Canes. Brodie is 33 and started to decline at the end of last year, he makes more than Pesce, and the Canes already have Slavin, Orlov, and Skjei as LD. They need RD.

Brodie is a RD. And the Canes don't have the cap space to sign Pesce long term and they are getting draft picks (including a first) out of it. Seems like a good trade for both teams.

Canes have the space to sign Pesce long term, they don't want to sign him to a long term deal because he'll be 30 when it starts.

Brodie is a LHD

Canes pass. Rather have the younger cheaper better dman even if they don’t extend him. They’re not going to extend Brodie either and a late first in 26 doesn’t have much value for us.
