Brodie is a RD. And the Canes don't have the cap space to sign Pesce long term and they are getting draft picks (including a first) out of it. Seems like a good trade for both teams.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Why do the Leafs trade a first and second for Garland and Schenn. Leafs are fine at wing and really don't want Garland's cap. If Muzzin is on LTIR his addition to the trade is not relevant at all.
Captain Trouba waives his NMC for Canucks...sure
Don't know why Jersey would want Boesner, they have wingers. Just spend his 6.65m on someone just as good or better and keep the first rounder.</div></div>
Muzzin wouldn't be on LTIR permanently, I have him on there just in case. Also Leafs are losing a lot of wingers this offseason and Garland brings them more depth and Schenn bring them more physicality. Good trade for them imo.
Also Trouba goes along with the trade since he wants to make the Rangers better/competitive/contenders and he can play a top 2D role at the Canucks.
Jersey brings in Boeser because he brings goal scoring ability and can easily have a comeback season given a fresh start on a young team. Their depth and offense improves dramatically with Boeser on the wing.

Throw in Dube instead of Rooney and Pospisil. Only then Canucks take your call and make their decision based on Kylington's injury status and Dube and Mangiapane performance in the next couple weeks.

Chicago is in the market for draft picks and prospects. They get a second round pick, a good prospect in Wolanin and they only have to take on one year of Myers contract.

Okay, would the trade work if Holl and Myers weren't included?

Unless you are retaining at least 2 million then don't bother. His contract doesn't justify this trade. Canucks already have bad contracts they don't need another one.

The Leafs would be losing two pkers in Marner and Engvall (Vancouver wouldn't need him). No one retains on a superstar on a multi-year deal.</div></div>
Then do you suggest the Leafs keep on going on with the same roster that has kept on disappointing every year with the same result. This team can't make it past the first round and they have shown that over and over. What the Leafs need is to add grit and someone who is from Toronto, a leader in the locker room (Canucks captain), can get at least 30 goals in a season, and battles hard every game. He is the definition of grit and can be exactly what the Leafs need to take the next step. Meanwhile, Canucks getting more speed, better special teams and superstar talent can help them take the next step as well.

Cap Space for Bo Kuzmenko and RHD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>Stralman should be getting a league minimum contract. This isn't NHL 22.</div></div>
The fact that this isn't NHL 22 but the real world is why he is not going to sign with any team for league minimum. If the Canucks can get him for less than 5 million, great. But I think he will ask for around that much money to sign as a rental. He kind of had a great year in terms of advanced stats last year.

Stralman is a one year rental to help the team's blue line for one year only. He is not a long term solution (see that is contract is only for one year). That is why trading Myers, Stralman's contract ending in one year and the cap space from the buyout will help sign a RHD long term. And help keep Bo and Kuzmenko long term as well. Additionally Stralman's advanced stats do show him good enough to earn 5 million for one year. However if we can negotiate that down to 3 or 4 million then that will be beneficial as well as it would allow us to enough cap space to go after a rental before the trade deadline. But I don't think that will be likely.

Cap Space for Bo Kuzmenko and RHD
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>Are you seriously paying a first to dump 6mil Myers and then signing 5mil Stralman? That is next level Jim Benning stuff right there. Myers>>>>Stralman. This whole idea is pointless</div></div>
Bo and Kuzmenko's contracts end this year. We need cap space to re-sign them. Bo will ask for at least 7 million and Kuzmenko (if he has a 40-50 point season) will ask for at least 5 million to stay long term. So we need to find around 6 million in cap space. The 2.4 million cap space created by Virtanen and Holtby buyouts will need to be spent on a RHD in the offseason.
Tyler Myers is terrible and no where near as good as Stralman if you consider the advanced stats.
Stralman had 23 points in 74 games. 100 blocked shots. 32 takeways and only 28 giveaways. 99 hits for and only 75 hits against. 6 penalties taken and 4 penalties drawn.
While Myers had 18 points in 82 games.148 blocked shots. However 56 GIVEAWAYS and only 32 takeaways. 145 hits for and 128 hits against. 24 penalties TAKEN and only 11 penalties drawn.
And anyone who has been watching Canucks games these past few seasons knows how much of a liability Myers has been. His defensive play is embarrassing at times and always find ridiculous ways to end up in the penalty box especially by tossing the puck above the glass when clearing. He needs to go for the Canucks to be a better defensive team.

Canucks need a RD. A long term partner for Quinn who isn’t a 3rd pairing defensemen that can’t really play defense. An elite RD like Dobson would be the perfect long term fit for Quinn, it can make them both really good players. And make Canucks blue line a lot faster, skilled, younger and better offensively and defensively.
