I'd hope VAN would. I prefer Petey and Hughes to Barzal and Dobson.

I think Dobson/Hughes and Barzal/Pettersson are fairly similar in talent. The first issue is that both islanders players are righties and both Canucks players are lefties. The second is that Dobson has better size than Hughes. The third issue is that I wouldn’t take Demko over Sorokin. So I think the isles would say no.

I think I take petey over Barzal and Hughes over Dobson but it’s probably hometown bias in me.

I get why you say that. I wouldn’t be unhappy with either duo. But the issue is about the fact the isles players are righties. Also I prefer Sorokin to Demko so I will take the superior goalie any day of the week.

This is Isles fleecing the Canucks. The Canucks get much worse from these trades. Petey > Barzal, Hughes > Dobson and Demko > Sorokin. This isn’t a fair trade at all.

Nobody asked, but:

Barzal > Pettersson (at this EXACT moment in time)
Hughes >>>>>>>>>>> Dobson
Sorokin >/= Demko

So I guess the Canucks say no but only because of Hughes.

Canucks decline probably. Kinda close but it doesn’t make too much sense for either team

Actually it’s Pettersson>Barzal, and at worst Dobson is equal to Hughes. Dobson is a top pair two way D who just put up 51 pts on arguably the worst offfensive team in the league

But Pettersson is better than Barzal, even now…

While Hughes is definitely better than Dobson right now, the gap isn’t that huge

Eh I’d like be biased and say Demko>Sorokin, but I’d honestly give Sorokin the slight edge right now. They are pretty even but Sorokin was a bit better this season

Would love for some one to explain how Barzal is better than Pettersson.

Pettersson scores more points, more goals, is a better finisher, better 2 way game, and is 2 years younger.

Dobson and Hughes were equalish last year but Hughes obviously has the better track record.

Sorokin and Demko are equals imo. Might give the edge to Sorokin

He is better but not that much better. In the top 10 goalies in the NHL, Demko is probably only one place behind Sorokin

Ino Hughes has more upside and has the better track record.

Hughes has more offensive upside, Dobson is on his way to being a pietrangelo type defenseman.

?????? Dobson is also an offensive defenseman. Neither player is much of a two way type

I don’t even think Dobson is comparable to Pietrangelo. He’s faster and a better puck handler.

It’s easier to improve defensive game over offensive game. Hughes already made big strides this past season. In a couple years, his defensive game should be pretty good

Dobson’s offensive game is great already, I just think Hughes has the potential to be a top 3 offensive defenseman while being slightly below average defensively, which is still isn’t bad. I think Dobson will be elite at both ends of the ice but not as good as Hughes offensively
