There is just nothing there that is interesting for Pesce.

A high-end D prospect, a serviceable NHL D for depth/trade, a likely middle-2nd plus a 4th for good measure. For a guy in the last year of his contract that you can't afford. I'd say that's very interesting.

I think the Atlantic is as wide open as it's been in years. Toronto is a lock, Tampa could start that downward swing of older teams, i.e. DRW 2014-ish, Boston is a question mark since they lost or are losing a ton of players, Florida could be stone cold killers or they could have a SCF runner up hangover. The up and comers are DRW, OTT and Buffalo, so who the hell knows? BUT, if we can add a 30-40 goal winger and outstanding RD then we start to look pretty deep w/ the 87 3rd and 4th liners we just signed. IF they can stay healthy...

It would be generous at best to call Johansson a B prospect. Maata is a cap dump. You want a guy the Canes can easily afford and want to keep but don't want to commit a deal to until he's 36. He's also a top 10 RHD in the league, one of the best DFD just flat out, and makes 4 million for that. You need a 1st and probably a Veleno to even start the conversation. This is laughed at

I wouldn't have any issue w/ a 1st and Veleno, but I think you're way undervaluing AJ and a $3M LD. Maata+2nd is worth a middle 1st and AJ+4th is worth more than Veleno. I like Veleno but he's a 15-20 goal 3rd/4th line ceiling guy. Not sure top 10 RHD but definitely a good one and definitely making $4M which is great. But, you guys have too many RHDs in front of him, especially when you complete the Deangelo trade. If you make the Karlsson trade, I'd assume Pesce is going to SJ.

Carolina only have Burns, Pesce and Chatfield at RD... they signed Orlov, but he's a LHD. That would make Skjei expendable, not Pesce

I'm starting to think I know more about your team's plans than you do, which makes me think I spend too much time reading NHL Twitter and capfriendly...

The "plan" that I heard was that CH are completing the trade to bring Anthony Deangelo back via trade w/ Philly. They have to wait until July 7th to avoid cap circumvention per the league. Once DA is back on your team w/ his $2.5M cap hit, plus your RFA re-signing, you will be over the cap. Plus, there have been rumors that if Pesce didn't sign an extension by 7/1 then he would be traded. No extension, and you have 4-5 NHL RD once the DA trade is done.

Mhm, the DeAngelo deal will be done on the 9th after a calendar year of the trade. Chatfield then comes out of the lineup to allow DeAngelo to play on the 3rd pair with Orlov and have the babysitter he needed when he played with Slavin. Still doesn't spell a Pesce trade. The report was they'd look at moving him before the season if he didn't sign, but he wasn't eligible to announce an extension before July 1st. This makes me think I know more about the CBA, and NHL rule book than you do, which makes me think I spent too much time on Twitter and CapFriendly.

Pretty depressing offer. If that’s the best then just keep pesce as a rental. Maata doesn’t crack the lineup and those prospects and picks are meh. No thx.

"Get to the cap floor"?!?!? We're within $7 million of the cap floor right now and haven't resigned Trevor Zegras, Troy Terry, Jamie Drysdale or Lukas Dostal or filled the final two open spots on the roster. So unless each and every single one of those six players ends up with a cap hit of $1 million or less, it would be impossible for us to stay UNDER the cap floor.

7th, 9th close enough, but touché, you too are an NHL nerd. I don't know anything about Coughlan or Chatfield, but I assumed that one of them would be on the roster. So I guess we'll see what happens. At this point I doubt Yzerman is making any big moves, he's just treading water until our young guys are ready, but I'm impatient.

Chatfield could be, but he doesn't really do much. Coghlan doesn't have a contract and seemed out of favor last year, falling behind de Haan and eventually Gostisbehere. At this point, if a D man is going to move, my guess is Skjei.
