That’s about 500k too much for Colton tbh.

I don’t reallly have high hopes that Pavel ever makes the team.

If the Avs can sign Toews for under 7m, I don't care if they have to break the CBA n give him 10 years if that's what it takes lol

I think you're a little high on Colton, so that will help. But what helps more is trading Manson. It's no coincidence that his trade protection opens up a lot the same year that Toews gets his raise.

This is a solid roster for next year cept I would trade manson and girard and give toews only 6 years

I can see your point of view, but I can also foresee Colton elevating into a top 6 role at some point, and that would warrant a higher pay grade. He's going to get more TOI and quality linemates than he did in Tampa. Say we trade Manson, what big dman that can play top 4 are you going to get out there next summer?? It's not that simple. If Manson can have a healthy year I'm all for him staying.

No way they'd trade 2 top 4 dman in the same summer lol. If you want 6yrs for Toews that # is going up quite a bit. And in 5-7 years the salary cap could be 110mil or something. Those last 1-2yrs of Toews would be insignificant.

All the reports I'm seeing from development camp are saying he's looking pretty good.

Pavel is everything you want in a 4C. He's continuing to put on weight to maintain his strengths. He is a responsible defender capable of playing a heavy forecheck. His strength will be an asset as he continues puts on more weight. Good faceoff guy at every level so far. He can PK, and generally does a good job of being difficult to play against. Lacks finishing touch, but his role in the NHL is going to be a 4C/PK.

You don't pay for something that Colton might (but might not) do in the future. You pay him what he's worth and hope for good value on the contract.

With Manson, he's not a top 4 dman and has never been in Colorado. He's very clearly no 5 behind all of Makar, Toews, Byram, and Girard. His TOI isn't even close to what those guys get, and he's easily the most replaceable. No disrespect. I really like him, but it's just the truth. Guys like him aren't that tough to find.

There's alot of valuable shutdown dmen who aren't injury prone in free agency next year.

Depending on the colton deal I think avs need to find another dmen so JJ can be the 7th. I was hoping they got mikkola or Mayfield but they signed.

Still need to sign a bottom six forward unless they look internally.

Bottom 6 forward spot should be solved internally unless there is a solid guy to claim on waivers in camp. Bottom six should be the following sometime in April:

Wood-Colton-Kovalenko
Cogs-Meyers-LOC

Kovalenko should be stepping in as middle 6 RW at the end of the KHL season next spring. He is the most obvious upgrade to the current roster at the biggest hole (IMO) 3RW.
