Can Murray go to vegas

Created by: MaxBorjshlapsky
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 5, 2023
Published: Jul. 5, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Golden Knights are set, similar to Leafs they are sitting approx $2M over the cap because ltir candidate Robin Lehner, Murray could fit into the goalie mix and Vegas has some money in their organization I would imagine they obviously have serious hockey IQ

Also I think Nylander heading to the capitals for strome and hitting a defense need in Toronto

Brodie to Philly they are looking for a culture shake up making moves

So how is Vegas fitting Murray in the cap and why do they need to try even if they could? They don’t need him and aren’t just helping out the leafs for no reason like your trade suggests. He is a cap dump, point blank.

Caps decline - they’re thin at C, can’t move Strome who is essentially their 1C going into the season.

Fair I'm high on getting one of the stromes yeah I did screw up the math on Vegas they would need $1-2M more to make it work but I see Murray as helping kind of how they went after quick and Vegas are mover and shakers so that was my mind set there

Caps would be fine at center. Kuzy, Backstrom, Dowd, McMichael, Lapierre, Holmberg, Protas. Priority is a youngish top 6 winger. Caps would most likely accept this. The optics of this trade from the Caps perspective would be brutal though. No chance they trade THREE guys they just gave major extensions in the last few months. That's how you get players to not like you very quickly

The value is good but fit is not. That’s incredibly weak center depth. Unless Kuzy bounces back in a big way with a new coaching staff that’s risky.

I get ya, but in all honesty, I'd rather run with Backstrom and McMichael as middle six centers than Mantha and Milano as our second line wing pairing. We have 6 bottom six wingers in our lineup, plus Ovi and Wilson, and the only winger with any speed is Milano. We need help badly there

That’s true. Maybe going after a winger that’s not going to be quite as expensive to acquire as Nylander is the move. That way you don’t have to part with somebody like Strome.

Yea, that's been my thought process. Honestly, I would've been all in on Duchene, especially at 3 mil. But yea, guys like DeBrincat, maybe Nikolaj Ehlers or Nick Schmaltz. I think that's about where we're at as far as targets

I don't know how anyone here is questioning the value going to Washington here. You have Strome who's absolutely a good player but is far from the player Nylander is, TVR who at his absolute best is a contending teams' 4th defenseman (again quite useful but far from fair value), and Milano who struggled to get offers on the table less than 12 months ago.

Not to mention, in addition to sending Nylander whose value is much more than the three pieces offered here (assuming extension which would likely be completed before any deal involving Nylander), you send a solid bottom-pair defenseman with top-four upside, as well as a solid young depth piece.

Appreciate the breakdown and certainly right now Milano and tvr better than holmberg and Lilegren then Nylander better than strome so yeah seems like a deal that's not insane, and maybe holmberg gets to play because he's really not bad, Nylander lilly join up with sandin.
