Semi-decent team without EK

Created by: Basc

Description
I’m sorry in advance from any bad language I’m originally to speak French. I’m here to explain the moves I’ve made. The Washington trade seems it would fit best to help them with their centers. The second trade was strictly to help STL to have a NHL 4th line center. The rest of the trades are pretty much a given. All signings I feel have a potential to help this team. In the taxi squad shows all players I would expect to put up some form of fight to make the NHL team. Power play & penalty kill all up to your mind. Feel free to let me know what you think about what I’ve done & what things you would do differently & why you would do them that way. Leave any comment you’d like thank you.

If the Penguins don’t want Granlund, the Capitals certainly don’t.

Devils don’t need DeSmith.

It’s so they don’t have to play young Akira Schmid, but if they did maybe a 3 goalie rotation.

San Jose needs a highly valuable young 3C on a good contract more than they need Jan Ruuta, a 32 year old who adds nothing to our future.

It’s certainly not about not wanting Granlund because he did put up 41 points this season making him a viable 3rd liner.

I get where you’re coming from, but their defense looks awful on the bottom 2. Jan Rutta was a viable defender for Tampa bay when they won the cup back to back. I wouldn’t want to over pressure any young defense making them play NHL minutes. It’s an easy trade to say yes to when it makes you a even little bit of a better team.

Schmid is already the best goalie on the team...

Truly I think it makes us a worse team. Just for NHL ready defenseman we have Vlasic, Ferarro, Benning, Knyzhov, Simek, Burroughs and MacDonald + Thrun, Guwanke and Ohkotiuk who should all be pushing for NHL time this year. And all that is assuming we trade Karlsson. Truly no room or need for Ruuta (even if he's better than players on that list) and Sturm is a major part of our center depth.

Sturm is 28. Same age as the average NHLer. He's younger than Rutta but certainly not young enough to add anything to San Jose's future rebuild except as a trade asset.

Did Dubas bring the irrationalness of the Leaf’s fan base with him to Pittsburgh?

It all depends how you look at it Jan Rutta would be veteran presence give those younger players more of a fight. As for the Sturm part there is players like Sundqvist & Nick Richie that are free agents that can help center wise.

Kastelic is the Sens' 4C, and good at it. So, Sens decline because they need him more than the AHL players your sending back

Can't see any reason for the Blues to do that. No cap, and Walker can play 4C pretty well.

You do need to explain on Rutta since SJ is flush with NHL defensemen

33 points > 41 points
Longer career veteran presence more points. Unless the caps are in full Rebuild there would be no reason not to add Granlund to assure some points. The capitals had only 3 players above 41 points last season. Put that into perspective.

Injuries were crippling last season as far as the points go. Milano is younger and cheaper. Granlund may be the better player but I do not think its a big enough gap to be worth it.

How many of those centers put up 41 points? Look I feel like the whole hockey community focuses on what penguins fans say about Granlund the trash crap because the penguins didn’t make the playoffs. Granlund is not a horrible player he’s a viable 3C & could even be a 2C. But even if You didn’t want Granlund playing up there he could be Your 4C Over Dowd.
You’re getting more point production. The 2021-2022 season Granlund put up 64 points. Dowd put up 24.

I see where you’re coming from & I understand it, but at the same time I wouldn’t give up that chance to get that extra point production.

I think you're getting too caught up on the points. When healthy, our top 3 centers will put up more points. Dowd is way cheaper and a better 4C. The other two are younger players who are just breaking in who are also a lot cheaper. At a reasonable cap hit, Granlund is very useful but at $5 million for two more seasons, I would rather have all 6 of our centers over him.

I dont hate the player at all, just hate the contract. He may bounce back tho

That’s why there is retention there I would put it between 1.7 million & 2 million. His salary would be at about & maybe a little over 3 million. It would make it easier to manage & they could still sign a player if needed in free agency. My idea for this was to help Washington, but also get the penguins some cap to sign some more free agents. Even if Granlund doesn’t play at C he can play RW. Also the whole injury plague it may be good to have his production on the team.
