That's such a bad trade for SJ, they are now essentially paying Petry 10+ million per season

Don't sign Zadina if you put him on the fourth line...

i just don't get how everyone trading for Karlsson looks at the team and the third line left behind and goes "yeah that's fine"

I think if Petry were willing to go to SJ and/or Grier were willing to take him, this deal would have been done already. I suspect Petry has a NTC blocking this deal and Grier doesn't want any salary coming back if Karlsson's cap hit has retention.

Hahahaha oh yeah, Pittsburgh selling whatever futures they have left for ANOTHER over 32 year old hall of famer seems like a great idea....

I do get going all in for the last few years of Crosby/Malkin, but perhaps double down with some younger stars?

What younger star players are available?

Its a good point of course and I truly don't know the quality of the D now. But there are some wingers available if Pittsburgh is interested (Nylander/DeBrincat). I mostly mean this team is already heavily committed to an aging core. This is like tripling down.

PIT doesn't need wingers. Somewhat over burdened with them now. Unless they send out Guentzel there is no space for another top 6 winger.

Fair enough. Guentzel is our best winger though, no?

Yes. Combined with Rakell, Smith, and Rust they don't need another top 6 winger. Now if Guentzel will cost the same to extend as those other two- and the players would extend at their new orgs.- I wouldn't have any issue in those deals being made. But I doubt that will be the case.

Thats fair. BUt yeah Rakell/smith/Rust is a good enough set of veteran top 6 W's. Can hope Granlund can do something in the other slot I suppose.
