Description
I know it seems crazy but this trade makes sense for both teams.

Edmonton gets Goodrow, a two time Stanley Cup champion who knows what it takes to win.
They also get Trouba, who threw his helmet one time and that was apparently very motivational. That's exactly what the Oilers need

Rangers take a gamble on McDavid, who hasn't even come close to winning a Cup. But I still think there's potential there.

I think given the Rangers cap crunch, I should've had the Oilers retain at least 25% of McDavid's salary as well.

Try for Eichel. He's a winner. McDavid is a selfish puck hog that will never win.

Rangers rejects, they are in win now mode and needs winners like Goodrow not cry babies like McDavid. Maybe add a 1st from Edmonton?

Well, this is one way to lose my two least favorite NYR contracts. I agree with your retained salary proposal. The Rangers would probably have to add a draft pick in that case. I'm not sure even Connor could bring the Rangers to the mountaintop. Having said all this, I don't believe EDM would entertain this, unless there is a growing sentiment to do otherwise in Oiler country.

I don't think the Rangers would have to add a pick in order for the Oilers to retain salary. Back in 1991 the Rangers acquired future considerations from the Oilers as part of a trade. It is about time Edmonton paid up on that.

Rangers will acquire the first ever lottery guaranteed pick as part of the trade. History in the making.

I hear ya! But if they pushed the point (which was my assumption), how say you then? Looking forward to your response.

They can also have Ben Harpur and a conditional 8th round pick.

Loved the response, particularly the 8th round pick!

P.S. As a Ranger fan since 55-56, I remember the trade you referred to in 1991. It was the beginning of the transition to the New York Olier-Hawks that Messier and Keenan conducted. It was this group that brought the Stanley Cup to the Big Apple in 1994. Enjoyed the banter.

It's not lottery guaranteed unless you trade for Taylor Hall as well. He was the lottery charm for Oilers... and Devils... and Sabres... and Blackhawks.

Sadly I was born a few years too late to see that one for myself. Hoping the current core can deliver another one.

Needed a distraction today. Thanks for playing along.

Me too!!! Have a great weekend. Looking forward to our next exchange.

BTW - Check out my all-time NYR pugilist post for some added diversion. You'll find a Wikipedia page for all of the, and there are a bunch more that easily could have "made the team." All decades are represented from the 1950s to today. My personal favorites are Reggie Fleming, who never met an opponent he didn't want to drop the gloves with; and Joe Kocur who possessed knockout power in both hands.

Add Draisaitl and then I’d say it’s an even trade
