Maybe, though I think everyone in Detroit is overvaluing Bergy a bit. He's a nice player who showed lots of poise last year, but he's not a 30G/60P guy. More of a middle sixer setup man.
He's not a 30G 60PT guy yet. He's only had one full season at the NHL level.
David Pastrnak's first two seasons in the NHL and first AHL season
25GP 11G 17A 28PTS (AHL) (1.12PPG)
97GP 25G 28A 53PTS (NHL) (0.54PPG)
You could also say he was a a nice player who showed lots of poise, but he's not a 30G/60P guy.
Jonatan Berggrens first AHL season plus first NHL season
70GP 21G 43A 64PTS (AHL) (0.91PPG)
67GP 15G 13A 28PTS (NHL) (0.41PPG)
We value him on what he could become, not what he was able to achieve in his rookie season in the NHL. I'm not saying he'll be as good as Pasta, I know he won't be. But will he be a 30G 60Pts guy once he's had a few seasons under his belt? Very likely. Berggren is a drafted and Detroit developed talent and he's not going anywhere.
