So Sharks take / have $10 million in useless cap space.... then they move a Norris 100p caliber player while there at it?

Ek @7.5m is worth at least a 1st + high end prospect. Poulin / Smith are far from high end... mid level at best?

EK @ 7.5m should look like 1st + Pickering.

dumping Petry should cost a 1st minimum ? Bailey @5mx1yr cost a 2nd. (Petry higher cap hit w more term) Maybe a 2nd + those prospects gets it done but id personally rather just have the 1st

imo Penguins need to add a little more

For one, with the NMC Karlsson isn't going to the highest bidder. Or even a high bidder. Two, only Carolina and Pittsburgh are reported as being interested. Three, I doubt a deal gets done at all as it sounds like Grier will only retain about $3m/yr. and no team can fit that. Four, Petry is not a cap dump. That's completely ignorant. Granlund and Carter would be cap dumps. Petry is still a capable 2RD if a bit overpaid.

I don't think it's a bad return. I don't care that he won the Norris, he wants out, and Sharks have very little leverage. Also, they didn't dump Petry, the Sharks flipped him to CBJ as part of another deal.

use logic.... "Petry is not a cap dump" .... you then go on to say "bit over paid" and "Grier will only retain about $3m/yr. and no team can fit that" SO AGAIN Petry at his cap hit being trade would be a "cap dump" Taylor Hall is a top 6 winger and was moved for free. "cap dump". Petry is a good #4- on a cup winning team. hes also 35 years old lol. Sharks could easily get a 1st + for eating 6m in cap / year.

Sharks dont have to trade him either..... Penguins need EK65 more than the Sharks need to move him

Sharks dont have to trade him... bc he wants out doesnt mean ****. they can just wait till next season when the cap goes up. Why would a young team in CBJ want 35 year old Petry ... ? doesnt make sense either esp when hes overpaid

Bailey was a 2026 2nd for one year of $5m on a bottom 6 player that was overpaid by at least $2m in cap hit. Petry is overpaid maybe two million over the next two years. So no that is not a 1st for the cap dump. Especially when he can't be replaced internally and would necessitate a trade to replace. If Grier wants to make a trade, he will need to take back significant salary and/or retain. Neither CAR nor PIT need Karlsson. I hope he stays there and has a bad value season for his cap hit- which has happened four of the last five seasons with him. Then Grier gets nothing of value back.

this is
https://sanjosehockeynow.com/san-jose-sharks-erik-karlsson-speculation-pittsburgh-penguins-trade/
which is pretty weak
hoping SJ gets more than this (if they go up to $4m retention) or else Grier simply shouldn't trade EK.
Market might simply not be there to benefit the franchise. He doesn't have to trade him.
