Not that it's that meaningful a transaction for Montreal, but they're not doing that... who would retain salary on a 1M dollar player? You only get three of those at any given time.

There is 0 incentive for MTL to consider retaining for that long on Karlsson to assist another team.

I don't think we need the Habs in the middle of this one.

Thus why they receive a former first rounder (Or another similar B+, A- prospect like Rees or Heimosalmi) along with middle round picks (Either '24 4th or '25 3rd from SJ).
The retention on Pitlick was an error but realistically Habs is soon to enter a period where retentions are unlikely. Hoffman, Armia and Dvorak are the only Bergevin remains with the team, Hoff likely gets retained this year and that's likely it. Armia and Dvorak deals can be made in the offseason when Eddy and Hoff retentions are off the books and past that it's pretty much over for Montreal. The core is signed, they'll have plenty of ELCs and a couple short term vets so those slots are likely left empty for a few years and the cap won't be much of a problem in the upcoming years. It's an out of the box idea.

Where is Ryan Suzuki going to play ?? There to many forward this years. Yes there Hoffman who end is contract this year and Armia / Dvorak next years but still there is Farrell, Mesar, Beck, Roy, Heinemann, Smilanic to name only them that is waiting for an spot.

It would be could to reunite both brother Suzuki but I don't think mtl have room for him.
