Nylander blockbuster

Created by: HShockey
Team: 2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 13, 2023
Published: Jul. 13, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
TOR deals Nylander with an extension included for a top pairing righty signed to a great deal for next 7 years(6.1), young forward, and 2nd. NYI still has a D of

Pelech-Dobson
Mayfield-Romanov
Bolduc-Aho/Gio

CAR deals Pesce to get extra assets for their push to get Karlsson, getting another 1st, 3rd, prospect, and decent D. Leafs STACK their D up with Pesce, Pulock, Liljergren, Reilly, McCabe and Klingberg...

VAN have a plethora of wingers, moving one for a 2nd as the main piece. ANA needs to reach the floor, and really have no use for the cap so retain 2.4x3 for two 4th's.

Leafs now have more scoring threats than ever, a STACKED d-core and a nice tandem. Maybe it's unrealistic? IDK

Pulock still has a NTC, and the isles still aren’t asking him to waive it. Also the team trading a top pair righty d man is never the one adding to the deal. Especially not for a winger, no matter how much I like his game.

I think Isles could really use another game-breaker in that top-6..Barzal,Bo,Willy,Lee,Nelson and Pageau is a pretty damn unstoppable top-6. Isles still have a pretty good D-core and have Sorokin between the pipes. Leafs almost certainly ask for one of Pelech,Pulock, or Dobson and a bit more...

ANA doesn’t need help reaching the floor. No reason for them to do this for such a small return.

You can ask for anything, but that doesn’t make it realistic.

Did you not see the Debrincat return? what makes you think Nylander has this much value? Also the Leafs can't take on that much salary

MB, I forgot to add a 27'2nd+2 4th's, ANA does this to reach the floor and I think it's 6.2 million...

Toronto is in the position of Chicago with DeBrincat, not OTT. Leafs have him for 1 more year at a very good number..Sens were in a worse position knowing debrincat only wanted 1 team..

True but Debrincat was an RFA and Nylander is going to be UFA at the end of that year. That is a big difference as well

I think it makes sense, CAR stocks up for Karlsson deal, Leafs get a bigger, younger, and cheaper version of Pesce. I don't like moving Brodie, especially cause he isn't that much worse than Pesce, but he got pushed around a bit against FLA so a bigger Pesce helps that. It's a lateral move sure...but the cap room and getting a natural RD is big in my eyes.

The value was probably inflated due to DeBrincat ONLY wanting Detroit and coming off a pretty bad year. Nylander's value has never been higher, and a team gets one bargain year and him for another 8 after(assuming he sticks to 8). If an extension is included, and it's under 10, you gotta think you could get a pretty hefty return, taking into account it's not just 1 team he's willing to go to

I’d imagine if Nylander was willing to sign for under 10, the Leafs would have signed him already

I see your point, but for a lateral move (your words) that helps with size and age, and both pending Ufa, a first, third and b prospect is expensive.
