Not sure if anyoneone would spend 1.32 million to buy a 5th round pick, but it won't be the Hawks who own way to many better picks in the next couple drafts and would not burn their 2nd of 3 retention slots for that.

It would be 667k for a 5th. At absolute best, to any team, it should be a 4th, but a 5th is definitely in range, especially talking just one season of retention. The retention slot is a factor, but the value is in line.

Ohhh....you mean 33% after Winnnipeg retains half. Yes the value is fair, but I still doubt Hawks would have any interest. First, that 5th would be the 16th highest pick in the next 2 draft for the Hawks. Burning a 2nd retention slot when the Hawks have 2 left and a bunch of pending UFA's with significant cap hits to potentially move at the deadline for in theory higher picks is not ideal. Last, with the Hawks holding the Tampa 1st, the last thing they should be doing is helping them in any way field a better team.

I would guess someone will retain that for a 4th/or 5th....just doubt it is the Hawks.

Yes, it was my error on the wording/placement of the trade parameters. I went ahead and adjusted it.

Tampa may change the prospect or improve the mid round pick, but Niederreiter doesn't have that much more value.

WPG(SK) isn't asking for more value, they're saying Nino is not on the table.

He is much more valuable to WPG though because he's a good player that helps them compete now, but more importantly, he doesn't mind being in Winnipeg.

I guess if he wants to stay in Winnipeg, but after trading Dubois and possibly losing Hellebuyck, I didn't see Winnipeg as a major contender this year. If they still planned on just a quick re-tool, I can see them trying to extend Niederreiter, but they could also trade him as a rental for more assets to help if more of a.re-build is the plan.

@CF18GM is correct on all points. I'm a huge fan of Nino, always have been. He works hard, says the right things, and can play up and down the line up and leads by example. The next gen of Jets NEEDS to see guys like Nino leading the right way. The future Jets need to see guys like Nino, not Scheifele, Connor, etc... floaters who play a 50' game. Nino is the role model the kids need. He's far too valuable. He was a steal at the trade deadline and is worth far more than some random whatever player and mid / late round picks.

People want to say... you only paid a 2nd for him, so that's all he's worth. He may be worth a 2nd rounder, but it would have to be a 2nd round pick that's in the 30's at worst. I would say he's more of a good prospect or couple of 2nds right now or a 2nd and 3rd at least.
