Nothing the Leafs have would get Elias Pettersson.

Canucks pass, there is no reason for us to do that.

If Owttersson is traded, the Canucks will be blown up. They will ask for futures, not an expiring UFA with a huge contract. This is basically Tkachuk for Huberdeau. Calgary ended up looking like a fool afterwards

Problem with the idea behind this ACGM is that Nylander does want to be in Toronto long term, can't say the same about Pettersson.

You're suggesting trading Matthews because he wants to sign a short term deal. If that's such a problem, why would Carolina trade Aho (who is nearing an 8-year extension) for him?

Carolina is hoping Matthews can produce more offense than Aho as they need to change it up. Nylander wants to be in Toronto for the right price. I would rather do this trade and pay a center. Pettersson might sign long-term to play in Toronto rather than Vancouver.

So…John Tavares is held captive to play in San Jose?

    Pettersson is sold at discount?

Leafs end up with $60m for 6 guys…and $27m left for 17 spots ($1.6m average)…that a could recipe? (Especially without much in pipeline)

Theres nothing of a ton of value that makes sense in a return. Nylander is pointless because no Pettersson means the Canucks aren't contenders anyways, same with Marner. Matthews would immediately walk in FA and Canucks wouldn't be contenders when he's there.

Pettersson hasn’t demanded a trade. This makes no sense. People were speculating last time pettersson needed a contract but he never got traded. Never even considered trading him

Sandin is no doubt better bro what. They have similar analytics but Liljegren didnt produce as much.

And again, that first was guaranteed to be like 29-32 lol so my point stands

Lilly is a right shot and is mobile/a puck moving defensemen lol... more valuable than Sandin, especially to the Leafs

He's a top 3 player in the league, don't get it twisted

Top 5 for sure, no point in arguing otherwise. Everyone will have a slightly different order of the top 5 outside of McDavid

You think it's a bad return?

It’s horrendous. A 24 year old superstar center. You want him traded for pick 32 and a 10.5 million dollar winger? Come on…

When he has more than 1 playoff series win then we can revisit this... for all the stats he puts up he doesn't have the success on his resume for me to put him above guys like MacKinnon and Makar

He’s right. All of the Leafs top players are on extremely expensive contracts with little term left. Matthews, Marner, Nylander are all set to be UFA soon and all will cost a lot of money. Not worth it for Vancouver. They have their 24 year old superstar who may cost less than all of them

so he could be a puck moving defenseman but he got outproduced by Sandin. Yes right shot is helpful, but it doesnt push him way over the wedge imo

There's not much to hope for with Matthews producing more than Aho, that's expected. If Matthews was available for trade, then why wouldn't CAR just offer other players instead of the guy willing to sign long-term. It's not like they already have a strong 1-2 down the middle and this is just upgrading one guy.

Pettersson might sign long-term with the Leafs but we simply don't know, so it doesn't really fit the theme of the ACGM. Vancouver wouldn't accept that trade most likely even if Pettersson requested a trade anyways (they should want a high profile C prospect back in a Petterson deal). I also don't see why Nylander would want to sign with a team who hasn't made the playoffs in years after losing their biggest star.

As for Nylander, wanting to be in Toronto for a right price, that's true about any player. Nylander is willing to take less if Matthews and Marner do, you traded Matthews so no reason to trade Nylander since Aho is coming in at least 2M-3M+ lower than Matthews. So, they will have more cap to work with and Nylander would be more inclined to take less than 10M.

Not even a little bit... Matthews hasn't been able to elevate his team to postseason success while others have been. His team has not been able to get over the hump of the first round except for last year meanwhile players like Makar and MacKinnon have been. They are close but the fact that Makar and MacKinnion have post-season success gives them the edge. If I was really trolling I'd be arguing how Aho is better than Matthews

Look at what he gave Chiarot... that means nothing lmao.

And trust me bro, i am the #1 supporter of hyping up RH-- but he isnt getting more than a late first. I mean maybe a pick in the 20s + a 3rd, but not like a first and 2nd and prospect

Exactly. After McDavid, you can’t go wrong picking any of those 4 players. There is no consensus order. I think McDavid at #1 is the only player that everyone would agree belongs there. Everyone’s list will be different from there

Pettersson had 16 more points in 2 less games than Nylander, Pettersson is still an RFA at the end of his contract, Nylander is not. Pettersson plays a premium position while Nylander plays the most common position in the league, Pettersson is also one of the best 2 way players in the league, Pettersson also has the benefit of being 3 years younger, why exactly would Vancouver do this? The difference between Nylander and Pettersson is more than a late 1st and a B level prospect

Well Leafs also gave you a first round pick and a center prospect who was a second round pick in Fraser Minten. And Nylander is a natural center and will be moved to that position in Vancouver. It's not a bad deal for Vancouver but they only do it if Pettersson won't sign long-term and if Nylander will sign a long-term contract.

Nylander has shown zero indications he can play Center at the NHL level, a late 1st round pick really isn't of interest in a Pettersson trade, Minten is a B level prospect like i said, the value just isn't here.

Do you know when Pettersson’s contract expires? The same year as Nylander. Canucks don’t need to sign Pettersson until next season. This means that the Canucks can sign Nylander for free. Why would Pettersson be traded right now? Makes no sense

But look at who Mackinnon and Makar had as teammates compared to Matthews and besides one cup run... have had similar results postseason wise.

As for Drai and McDavid, them and Matthews have had roughly same amount of success (Besides the Avs run in 2022, those five players have equal amount of 3rd round win)...

I value defence, something that Matthews clears the other 4 at with Mackinnon coming in 2nd place... So to me, it's obvious that Matthews would end up being a top 3 player in the world
