Hard to gauge what Matthew is worth but this isnt enough. keller is incredible but there is a big difference between him and AM, and this doesnt fill it

I'm thinking the Yotes would have to throw in Cooley, another A prospect and 1st x2 and 2nd minimum

Matthews, for as good as he is, is a rental until proven otherwise. Giving up the equivalent of four firsts and a second on top of Keller, Crouse, and McBain for a rental is a non-starter for any team, especially a team like the Coyotes that is still rebuilding.

He would 100% need to come with an extension if this actually happened, but I was just thinking what it would take to even start the convo with Leaf fans. 😂 If I was the Yotes I would never give up those assets for one player. Screw that. Build a kick ass team and a new arena and lure him in free agency once he realizes he's had enough of his current club and snowy weather 👍

not a chance - AM is elite but as TML has shown you need more than a couple elite players to win, need a complete team and giving up 4 (1st rounder Ill consider a core player) core players makes the whole team weaker. Im AZ I dont do the OP trade and forget about cooley plus A prospect and more high picks added, good gawd thats idiotic.

unless AM signs a long term deal he is not worth that much as a rental, except to team looking to win next year and willing to let him walk.

Not saying keller is as good as AM but dont forget keller had boyd as C for half the season and for the 20 games schmaltz was out had nick ritchie on other wing and outscored AM.

look at vegas - Eichel (very very good not elite) top scorer 66pts (just under ppg) and JM top goals w 28 yet complete team wins cup. both of them would be 5th on TML last year

yea just go build a kick ass team arizona, super easy! i know the last 27 years have proven the franchise is utterly incapable of it but i'm sure this time it's different! and btw, there's no new arena coming. tempe residents already voted to keep the existing landfill instead of relocating the maroon-coloured one in glendale.

matthews might end up a coyote someday tho... a houston coyote

Im not saying hed get a haul as a rental but it is true that its just so hard to gauge what he could get. Players like him are rarely available. its like Ohtani and Soto in baseball in a sense, where even for .5-1.5 seasons, they sill get a lot.

Dear Leafs fans,

The Sabres are NOT making a trade with Toronto
Find another team to take your Cap

Let me start, sometimes trading away a teams best player while adding depth will make a team better.
Matthews ($11,640,250 this year and $14,000,000 next year?) is amazing, but Crouse, Keller and McBain can PK (2:15, 0:35, 2:07 min/gm), are cost controlled for the next four years ($4,300,000, $7,150,000, RFA) while adding depth (37, 24, 12 goals last year) and grit (18, 194, 304 hits last year) to your team.
Use the draft picks from Nylander and this trade to make a pitch to Carolina for Pesce.
The Leafs gain cap certainty, grit, PK, and defense, while dropping goal production.
This trade could work out really well for both teams, just as the Eichel trade did for both Vegas and Buffalo, both were better the season after the trade.

Finally, the Buffalo trade.
Brodie, Niemala, 3rd for Stillman, Strbak.
Buffalo eats all the cap ($7,500,000 actual and $5,000,000 AVV) and gets RHD prospect.

exactly why would AZ do this, oh i get why TML are in but AZ adds one elite player but makes weakens the team as a whole.
