This offer just simply has no value to Toronto and what they’re trying to do.
IF they trade Nylander, the main piece has to be a defenceman. Strome is a an average middle 6 guy that can not be the main piece for an elite talent like Nylander or it’s a massive L for Toronto. Tracey wouldn’t really have much value to add - he’s a former 1st round pick that’s already 22 and has only 1 NHL game to his name. He can’t crack a weak Anaheim lineup and hasn’t dominated the AHL either, it’s getting near that “put up or shut up” territory - which is nearing the bust label. The only interesting piece is the 1st round pick and that’s only if it’s a top 5 pick. But still, Toronto isn’t looking to rebuild and a top 5 pick next draft doesn’t immediately step into the lineup for them.
Realistically, Anaheim and Toronto don’t match up that well for a trade. The Ducks aren’t in a spot to add a player in his prime yet, and they don’t have the pieces for a Nylander deal (they’re not dealing the likes of Zegras, Drysdale, Carlsson, etc.). The only exception might be if Toronto is high on McTavish (which I know they are) but the second piece would be a wildcard to add in and even then McTavish comes with a lot of risks because he still isn’t established in the NHL yet. Maybe something like McTavish + Helleson + top 10 protected 1st MIGHT be a starter package, but even then there’s questions about Helleson as a big part of the deal. Likely Nylander would go elsewhere
