So, your answer is to have Carolina run a RD trio if a guy that couldn't get game time last year for love nor money in Coghlan, a dude that's been rejected by 5 different teams in DeAngelo, and a 39 year old Brent Burns... no

You guys don't see the big picture, you don't have the vision..

Pettruzzeli will take over the goalie duties guaranteed.

Canes wouldn’t be adding 2 2nds onto Pesce just to get Nylander. The DeBrincat trades are great comparables for Nylander, btw. And they also aren’t downgrading Raanta for Pettruzelli.

Fun fact, the Canes had the pick that became Pettruzzeli, and traded it for Teravainen

No they really aren’t, Debrincat dictated where he wanted to be traded which severely reduced his value plus having a very underwhelming season in Ottawa, Willy just had his career high

So similar to what tampa did when they won the cup have Elite LHD Headman, Sergy & Mcdoungh and then have PP Qb Shattenkirk and 2 bums Schean & Bogo. Seems like a plan Id be happy the canes are following but thats just me........

DeBrincat: 2 years of team control got 7OA, a 2nd, and a 3rd for 0.829 career PPG (2nd trade after down year for RFA rights was 1st, 2nd, Kubalik, and Sebrango)
Nylander: 1 year of team control for 0.825 career PPG

Considering that they are both virtually the same player, soft and 1 dimensional offensively, how far off is it really?

They played Sergachev on the right for large parts of those runs.... Carolina don't have a LD that can play on the right. Orlov has done it, but they aren't paying him that much to play on the right. Slavin could do it, but why mess with one of the best D men in the NHL. Skjei cannot do it. It's not comparable, Carolina cannot make it work like Tampa did because they don't have the youngster Tampa did

Even if we agree that hawks deBrincat was equivalent to nylander; 7OA>>Pesce (2nd pairing dman, pending FA) & Antii Raanta is of no use to Leafs, so 2 2nds compared to 2nd + 3rd is not enough to make up difference between 7OA and Pesce. Not enough for Leafs

Ah yes, the 2nd pairing argument. Just because he is utilized on the 2nd pair, that doesn’t make him a 2nd pairing dman. Frankly, you look at the deployment that Pesce has, he is on the ice against the opponents top guns more often than not, and is the go to pairing for dzone starts, not to mention is typically paired with the Staal line for those heavy minutes. He is very much a top pairing dman, and if you are just judging Pesce on his offense and which pairing he is utilized on, you are a complete idiot. The only reason Pesce isn’t on the top pair is because the Canes also have Slavin, and the only time Brind’amour puts Slavin and Pesce out together, is also with Staal when they are killing a 5-on-3 penalty.

Buddy you have to get over this argument. Burns is excellent even being 38 and is RD1, Chatfield could slot into RD2, and Tony would be RD3, Coghlan as 7D. Our RD is fine. I do think re-signing Pesce and moving Skjei makes more sense and then fill LD3 in - I don't see a world where we go into the season with our LD3 makes over $5MM.

Burns was excellent last year, absolutely. He's also 39 and could fall off a cliff.

Chatfield is nota 2RD. That is a major issue in the defensive unit. I've made the argument he's not a 3RD because of his defensive issues. He's overreliant on his speed because he's always out of position.

TDA at 3 is fine, it's the rest of the D core that has problems. It's not good enough without Pesce. That's why the Canes are trying to re-sign Pesce still. You need to get over this. It's not good enough without Pesce. That's the end of it. Moving Skjei makes sense. Moving Pesce does not
