I think San Jose would consider this. Maybe if the 2nd has a condition that it upgrades to a 1st if GGY advances to the WCF

If the Canes ‘miss out on Karlsson’ - why would the go after Hanifin?

I think it would be more like "pass" on EK rather than "miss out". Think they could outbid anyone right now if they wanted him that much. Hanifan is an LHD though.

Because they want to take 4.95M in cap off the Flames book to make this post work.

Agreed, fair point. As mentioned, kinda got away from me. I think that there is a move out there for Hanifin, this just probably isn't it.

I don't see Boston getting rid of both Frederic and Swayman.

They would probably try to get assets for Ullmark from a team not on his NTC before they resorted to that.

If Hertl is available, the Bruins would probably just trade for him directly, he's better than Lindholm.

Bruins have 5 mil in cap, and that's to resign Swayman and Freddy who are theoretically what's going to SJ in this trade. Another piece like Gryz (who the Sharks could use) and that's plenty of cap. Retention with SJ could also be possible.
