Just doesn’t make sense for Van to give up a 1st for a player who will be 28 when his next extension starts

Garland is a more expensive Kerfoot and Beulivier is a solid middle 6 player, and then you have the 1st... It's not enough quality for Nylander

I think Trevling keeps Nylander for this season and let's him walk into UFA, have Leaf Nation turn on Nylander for leaving.

Trevling than can use that $10 million the Willy wants and focus on splitting it up to keep Bertuzzi and Domi long term. Depending on their performance this season.

That checks out for how Vancouver runs things.

Quantity is the only option in a Nylander trade, that's the nature of having the best player in the trade.

What is it you think a pending UFA with a massive salary ask is going to return?

1st+good prospect+younger player or a 1 for 1 trade for a top asset

The only top asset you'll get in return is one that's a similar flight risk to Willy.

The only way the other return happens is a sign and trade for a reasonable AAV, not UFA money. Even then I think it's a bad idea for the leafs to do that since it trades talent now for talent later while they're in a compete window.

The best outcome for a Willy trade is a significant upgrade to the bottom 9 depth.

There is no reason for the Leafs to make this trade. The pieces coming back are depth pieces and a 1st in 2 years. Why?

Lindholm would work, Pesce+ etc. would be what I mean by top asset

You do realize that the 1st line is already set? The best Toronto could do (realistically if they don't plan on shipping 1 of the other core members) is add a 2nd line player

And definelty not a cap dump, mid player, 1st and a 3rd

Definitely a losing trade for Nylander, Toronto can fetch a better return.

I don't think any NHL player gives to sh its about their old team booing them. Nylander wants the money and to him that's all that matters.
