I think Nylander can absolutely play center at the NHL level, but he shouldn’t in Toronto. Tavares is elite on face offs so moving him away from center is going to hurt the leafs more than it helps them imo.

Hes not good enough defensively for that. He's fine on the wing.

Agreed. They tried this years ago, and it was a colossal fail. It would be a sheer act of desperation to have him play the middle.

Sébastien Aho should be on Treliving's Christmas card list. That contract should put Nylander's value in perspective.

It's a long term thing. Tavares is aging out of being a top 6 centre. If we're committing big money to Nylander again I think it should only be done if he can be a c. Paying our top 2 C's and top winger big money to be the core makes more sense than our top c and top 2 w's. (presuming Tavares either takes a paycut below core levels or is gone after this contract)
