No they aren't. This signing will be the start of them clearing some bad contracts, and hopefully getting Karlsson.

They just signed Terry long term but if you take out the Granlund dump, because we need the top 6 forward if we do trade Jake, so you rearrange the Anaheim package, I feel like this is how you get it done. If you do end up trading Jake, you can try Granlund up top or get someone off their roster who isn't as good who might be able to fit into the top 6, like Athansiou perhaps.

This is a great contract, FOR WHATEVER TEAM PICKS HIM UP OFF OF WAIVERS!

Seriously, the Pens already have too many roster members and they are over $3 million over the cap without ZERO LTIR candidates. There are no teams who will be willing to help them out to get to the cap floor, so they will have to send some players to the minors, who will undoubtedly get picked up on waivers.

The Penguins have 1 too many highly paid backup goalies and Jan Rutta to move (if they can) to get out of cap trouble.
