Grabbing the low hanging fruit

Description
Loosing Lundestrom for half the season hurts, but it does open some options up to pick up some decent players from teams who are not cap compliant.

Defense is certainly tighter than last season. Additions of Gudas and Hagg were good, I think adding Rutta would continue to help protect the goalies. I really don't like putting Drysdale and Fowler in the same line, but short of getting a true 1LD to push Fowler down to 2nd pairing with Gudas, I don't see another path forward. I just think that first pairing is going to get bounced around too much, neither of them are physical, and Drysdale doesn't even have the size advantage of Fowler.

Jarnkrok is a bit undersized, but has good IQ and a good 200ft game. As a bottom 6/9 utility knife he'd be useful to have around, notably to play 3RW after Sold has departed.

I think LaCombe gets a year to show off what he has at the NHL level while the other guys get some pro experience in San Diego. Leo probably plays there too. Might want to look at picking up a goalie with a year left and let Dostal try for a Calder?

Pens probably accept though I have a feeling Dubas may want to keep Rutta around.

2.086 over the cap, Jarnkrok is 2.1. everyone else in the neighborhood was a signing Treeiving just made, and Treeliving has traded Jarnkrok before.

So who are you loosing to get cap compliant?

A backloaded UFA signing, and his play last season, that would take a decent sweetener.

Probably going to pretend someone else has an injury so they can go on LTIR

Pens would probably accept... but it depends what happens the next few days i would assume.

They have a new buyout window now so if they do decide to use that on granlund, they'd be cap compliant. If they wanted to then free more space i definitely see this

Why do they have a new window? DOC signed before the hearing, the 2nd window only opens if the player goes to arbitration.

Maybe I'm wrong but they can waive Lafferty and run a 20 man roster. They very well could trade Jarnkrok for nothing but they have other options before that becomes a reality.

I don't think that's correct. My understanding is that a second window opens as the RFA and team didn't come to an agreement by July 1st, thus they were headed to arbitration. "teams may receive an additional buyout window. If a team has a player go to arbitration and it is either settled or awarded, the team receives a new 48 hour buyout window beginning 3 days after the arbitration settlement or award"

Ah, yeah, I got confused on the wording, thought it was only for if the arbitrator handed out an award, not for settlements.

It appears you are correct. Next couple of days will tell.

Truly don't know what their plan is lol. I do believe Dubas and Co. have one, I don't think it is EK, but I do believe the roster as is will not be the same come camp.

I'm pretty sure that once the player files for arbitration, the window opens if the parties settle or an award is made. The only way that the window DOESN'T open is if the player is traded prior to the salary issue being resolved, is how I understand it.

They can run 11 forwards and 7 defence with 2 goalies and they’re cap compliant. They’re not going to be making any cap dumps. Jarnkrok has value. At least a roster player would go back to Toronto

Assuming the Murray situation doesn't get investigated, which personally think it will.

Anymore unsubstantiated rumours or innuendo you want to sling? Pretty sure teams can’t place players on LTIR without leave approval

I mean the Leafs didn't comment on the situation currently as to why he's on LTIR for the season and yet the player was available and deemed healthy in the playoffs and now all of a sudden hurt again? Yeah pretty suspicious, specially when the entire industry is saying the same thing lol. It's pretty easy to come out and explain the situation as to why he's on LTIR either from the Leafs or Murray himself. Everything pointed in paying to move the contract and then no one was willing and he all of a sudden is placed on LTIR???

Yeah I'm gonna sling that all day lol, and don't for one second as a leafs fan act like it isn't suspicious at all.

The league approves LTIR candidates so send an email to bettman. And Leafs or Murray are not required in anyway to provide you the details behind his injury but by all means keep slinging 😂; you’re doing important work 👏

The league can investigate all they want. Murray has a legitimate injury and can be placed on LTIR for it. He’s dealing with post concussion issues and ankle issues. People need to stop crying about it. He wants to play. It’s not like he’s fake an injury and not play all year, athletes have pride and don’t do that.

And yet another leafs fan not answering the question (surprise surprise) of who's getting waived to get cap compliant. Y'all love to dance around the issue while calling us idiots, but y'all never have any actual answers. You need just shy of 2.1 million, that's not two ELC or league min players, so who's it going to be?

No one bud, they run 7 D (incl Timmins) and 11F (all waiver exempt players except Knies on marlies to start). Do the math or let cap friendly do it for you…not that complicated.
