I like Hanifin. Quality player that would fit pretty well in Sullivan's system. That said, he is a completely superfluous acquisition target after Graves was signed. Dube would be an ideal target as a 3C.
Chicago has 3 young goalies Soderblom, Commesso and Gajan.
They are healthy with D Prospects.
Petry can still play and could fetch another 2nd round pick retained at the deadline... but bringing in these specific players just adds to the log jam at the backend. Chicago will give their own prospects a chance.

Dont think theres a 2nd goalie in rockford atm so I wouldnt mind a commesso-blomqvist tandem. I'd rather have straight picks to take on Petry but the values there and those guys are young enough and highly rated enough you can flip them pretty easily if that makes the most sense for CHI
That's a fair offer to take Petry, but not the right pieces for the Hawks. They'd have zero interest in Smith, and not sure how much interest in Blomqvist they'd have either. Hawks would probably want another 2nd in place of those two players.

Stauber is in Rockford now to back up Commesso. And Bassie is in his last year in the NCAA and will need a spot next season if Hawks can get him signed.

Hmmm... I think I'd take this deal. Yes, the Hawks have an abundance of Ds in the pipeline. However, they are overwhelmingly LD, not R. They have a paucity of RD prospects in the system, and Smith can apparently play both sides so I'd take him on.
Ds take a LONG time to mature; we could be bringing in vets on short-term deals for five years as it stands now, even if we draft a bunch of RDs in next year's draft (which is supposed to strong in Ds.) I'd rather get a few now and get started in our RD development prior to exclusively drafting 18-year olds next year.
I'm not worried about having too many good goalie prospects; that's a good problem to have. And we don't know which one (or two these days) will be the one(s) that will be the starter(s) in the future.

I'd probably still take it if its the best PIT offers. Not that I'm a goaltending expert but blomqvist seems more nhl likely than basse. And again would rather have picks but these guys are recent high draft picks themselves, you could definitely flip em for a pick or a prospect you like better.

Jaxon Stauber is down there as well. But i agree with your take, id prefer picks over bodies.

Hey, reasonable minds can disagree. Cheers
Fair points, you can never have too many prospects..
I see Ty Smith is another Ian Mitchell. Id prefer to give our own guys a chance before Smith. Philips, Roos, even Nolan and Del Mastro, plus im assuming that Vlasic, Kiaser and potentially Korchinski get a chance to start the year with the team.

Well, if Ty Smith is another Ian Mitchell, then I admit I'm a bit cooler to this deal. (Although I would like to have seen how Mitchell did this year with the Hawks; young defensemen often take a lot of time to put things together...) I envisioned Smith on the right side; that way he doesn't block any of our LD, right? Maybe I'm missing something...
I agree that I don't want to have the growth and development of any of our LD prospects impaired.
What an exciting time for Hawks fans, eh? We get to see the Hawks rebuilt from the very bottom. So interesting to see how KD does this. So far, so good, IMO!
