Description

Willy isn't going to sign under $10 million, and the leafs can't afford to lock that much on the right side with Marner coming due.

Leafs also need Tavares out of 2C and there is no one viable on the roster for that spot.

This requires Calgary to concede that 2024 will not be there year, and they will retool for the 2025 season.

Proposal: Leafs reach out to Calgary with the following proposal:
Lindholm to the leafs @ 50% retention

For Lindholm, Leafs give a 1st, Fraser Minton as a Center prospect (2 changes to develop Lindholm's replacement in house)

For Retention, Leafs offer Jarnkrok who will not replace Lindholm, but is on a good money deal, and flexible on the roster positon wise, plus a 3rd.

Leafs then lock Lindholm up to a 7*$9 million deal, while keeping a $7Million dollar Willy in a contract year.

The Flames would almost definitely get a better prospect, player and pick (a 1st from a team worse than the Leafs) than this

The rationale for Lindholm makes alot of sense, but I dont think that offer gets it done.

You'd have to have alot more faith in minten than most experts do, the picks are probably low in the round and jarnkrot is really a throw in to CGY. Good start, but you'd probably have to add another real good piece (and toronto doesn;t have alot of those), like one of Hirvonen or Voit.

updated to include an additional prospect. Would add another prospect on top if required outside of Knies, Robertson and Topi as this would be an all in move for the leafs in the Nylander window

Nylander isn't signing for 10 million. His initial ask is just part of any normal negotiation.
