Yup, he’s an important asset, that’s why 90% of Rangers fans proposals have them dumping Goodrow. Can he play an important role, perhaps he did for Tampa but not at his current contract price.

The Rangers need cap space, there are very few teams that can add Goodrow’s cap hit even with $1m retained. If they could get a 2nd + as you suggest, he would have been traded already.

But, yeah, there is too much salary and term connected to Goodrow. A rebuilding team won't be interested in him in almost any capacity. So, NY would have to pay to dump him as a pure cap dump, if no other team is willing to take him.

I mean... I wasn't even talking to you... However, I did read all your points, and they still don't stand, IMHO. Even next year, he still has $11.25M owed to him in actual salary and an almost $4M cap hit for those remaining 3 years. The retention maybe helps a little bit, but not much. If you can find a team that thinks they have a need/role for him, you might be able to pawn him off for cheaper. But it definitely won't be CHI. Not for that cheap. Maybe in the summer before the 25-26 season when he only has two seasons left, and that's only if CHI is still bottom feeding and isn't loading up to start competing. Which they likely will be doing in those last few years of Goodrow's contract, and would complicate things. Hence why all CHI's contracts signed under Kyle Davidson don't go past the 24-25 season.
