And I thought Hextalls trades were bad

Created by: Victor24
Team: 2023-24 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2023
Published: Aug. 6, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
10MM per year? Seriously?

I can't wait until he hurts an ankle in warm-ups before a game and is out for 25% of the season.

At least I still have Ana and Van. Maybe they'll be relevant in the next few years. This team is boned.

Well that's a different take. Most Pens fans are planning the parade today.

I don’t like the trade… but Hextall was the bottom of the barrel.

I love the trade. Even if he gets hurt we have cap space while he's LTIR. I'd rather have cap space than all those bad contracts attached to players we don't want to use... But if we still had those players we'd have to play them in order to trade them at some point. Which would only hurt the team moving forward. We're infinitely better off today than we were yesterday...

I don't think many of us are planning a parade, and if you're seeing it on twitter.. well take that with a grain of salt.

i'd say majority of penguins fans feel better about their playoff odds and the team + the fact they didn't have to give up much.

This is a phenomenal trade for Pittsburgh.

Dubas moved all his dead weight off the roster without paying to do so.

Idk how you think it's a terrible trade lol.

If the pens had to give up things like multiple picks, poulin/poj/pickering etc and still have his cap at $10M... then it'd be bad.

But to move on from all hextall era additions with awful performance and contracts to land a guy that 100% makes the team better for the last push... it's a win.

But if you're cheering for three different teams then that's a casual fan lol.

Idk... lol

The cap hit is meaningless anyway you cut it, the pens are cooked in 2 seasons regardless.

IF it was going to be $10M AAV to give up a lot, then absolutely no, but to give up DeSmith, Petry, Granlund, Rutta, a trash prospect and lottery protected 1st and a 2nd to get EK... ya i'm in.

It's a high risk high reward move. There are no perfect solutions after Hextall left them in a poor situation.

They saved 3 million in cap, ditched 3 underperforming players and brought in one of the most exciting players in hockey. Comparing this to the crap Hextall was doing is a joke.

i think very few pens fans were negative about actually having EK.

The differences came around the cost.

Some comment on here and elsewhere like they just want a rebuild to begin already. Hello? Sidney Crosby is still on this roster. Is ain't just any other "core."

If they need lightning in a bottle, Karlsson is most certainly the conductor. I'm here for it.

rebuild is just so dumb lol.

I realistically want them to go for it every year with sid, they have a generational talent, it's all the can and should do.

10MM for a guy who averages 50ish games per season is a lot. If he gets hurt....

This is true. I am not much of a risk taker but if Karl stays healthy...

I can't like multiple teams? Why? I like 4 baseball teams and 5 football teams. I enjoy watching and playing sports. I don't see a problem with that.

Didn't say you can't. Like as many team as you want. Hell, wear a Yankees hat, Lakers jersey and Patriots sweatpants if you want.

The trade cleared cap space though don't forget. And he's averaging 70 games the past 3 years.

After some time of contemplation, I like the trade more. I still think Karl is too big of a cap hit but clearing out Granlund and Rutta are bonuses.
