Do you own a Time Machine? Can you turn it back to 2015? If so we have the best team in the league. If not then NO.

They're obviously going to contend, but I don't see how they can avoid moving one more contract out. They need some flexibility and LTIR for Guentzel is a cap band-aid.

I ask this cause it's obvious they are making a last push so I'm curious what everyone else thinks cause if Crosby malkin Karlsson and Letang play to their abilities and Jarry can be solid, with the experience they have they got a shot.

Apparently they are just going to throw Carter on the LTIR.

This is a team that reminds me of what happened with Boston. Everyone thought they’d be out of the playoffs, and then they shattered everyone’s expectations. Not saying Pittsburgh will win 65 games next year, or even 50, but I could see them possibly getting into the playoffs, and the structure of this team is built well for the playoffs, especially if they build off it.

This trade was made to keep rear ends in seats. FSG wants to make money. No one wants to say it out loud but we all know you don’t contend for cups with a core of guys who are in their mid 30s and all have significant injury histories.

They're better than they were yesterday. But not Cup Contenders. Just my opinion though.

What's his injury? 🤔

Is Acciari taking a crowbar to his knees?

No way are we even going to touch what they did. We are more likely to miss the playoffs than be a true contender. Again, you don’t win cups with a core of mid 30s. Boston as good as they were even showed what happens when you hit the wall come playoff time.

The problem is Boston was built from the goal out. That team was the most responsible defensive team in the league. Sully will not change how we play. He never had and never will. We want to be Edmonton but you can’t be Edmonton when you’re old.

Normally I'd agree but Crosby is a top 5 player of all time and you still have solid pieces surrounding the aged core such as Graves, Guentzel, Smith, and Pettersson is solid. So it's not like they are all old bums these guys can still play.

Sid is Sid and that would be true no matter who else is on the team. Here’s the other issue with playing old guys crucial minutes, how do you keep them all on the ice for more than say 60 games? Sid and Geno played 82 last year… for the first time ever! Is that happening again? Of course not. Letang played 64 games last year. Karlsson played all 82 but only played 50 the season before. Both of them are going to miss games without a doubt. Geno played 41 games the season before last.

Geno is 37, Sid turns 36 tomorrow, Tanger is 36, Karlsson is 33, Jake is 29 in October. Now let’s not ignore that Carter is going to be 39 this year, Eller is 34, Acciari turns 32, Smith is 32, Rust is 31, and Rakell 30. Long story short the team is still old. It’s a better old than last year but it’s old. That team isn’t going on the ice with NJ and skating with them, but Sully and the boys will pretend they can. They don’t do old man hockey. You can’t play like you’re 25 at 35. You have to structure the team the way Boston did and they won’t do it.

Even that doesn't solve their problem when Guentzel is ready to play (December?) and you can't just throw anyone on LTIR.

This trade was made to make the team better lol. But yes - usually being better puts more butts in the seats.

Do you actually not like this trade?

I think he's supposed to be re-evaluated beginning of October. So best case scenario he only misses a handful of games. But yeah - you can't just throw anyone on LTIR

They're definitely not a top contender - but I think it moves them from trying to compete for WC2 to be being comfortably in the mix for WC1. And as we saw last year, anything can happen once you're in
