If Hughes traded Monahan after signing him this offseason it would alienate players away from Montreal so long as Hughes was there.

that's not a very smart comment. He signed a 1 year deal at a low price so that he could be traded without retention. Pretty sure everyone on the team knows that.

Name one time in recent history where a team signs a player and then trades him in the same offseason. In season is a possibility, but if Hughes did this it would be severely criticized.

I never realized this trade was a pre opening night trade. I thought it was tdl. My bad, still don't see where it says that. And seeing as Dvo isn't set to start the season, I'd think it's tdl.
