Petry read description you lazy ass

Description
Saw a couple of rumours here in MTL about Dallas interest in Petry and one of them had Marchment as a target.

I really like that player, I think he could be the perfect fit for Suzuki and Caufield and still in his prime years.

I think habs fans will say I gave too much and Stars fans will say hell no but I really do think this swap could benefit both teams, Dallas being thin on RD and looking to win right now.

Personnally, I would be comfortable adding a little more. As for habs fans, be real you won't get a 40pts player with defensive skills for cheaper.

Feel free to suggest tweaks if you think that could happen. Don't bother commenting if you can at least add why it does not make sense or why its onesided for either teams.

Marchment isn't worth his contract. With Petry's retained salary on top, that's too much money for a player who haven't proved he can contribute on a regular basis.

The 2nd and the prospect are going the wrong way.

I think Marchment is a risk at that cap & term. I think his 1 good szn 2 yrs ago may have been a one-off, which makes this hella risky.
Imagine next szn we have Armia, Gallagher and this guy not earning their pay. Too much risk no tx

I get why you analyze it that way. IMO, he's a .5PPG defensivly well rounded player with size. 4.5M is a little high I can give it to you but not by a large margin, especially if the cap continue to go up.

I added from MTL side because I dont think Jim Neil would consider a 1v1 swap even with retention.

I know you reading a lot of comments from this blog, you're never delusional and sometimes even severe so my proposal + your insight makes me think Im at least on too something that could happen haha!

He did just had a good season without live up to the one he had in Florida. I also watched the stars in playoffs and he was so usefull even if the production was meeeh. I get that he's not a sure thing but he's far from Gallagher and Armia production vs contract wise. I feel he could thrive being the complement of Zuke and Caufield, he have what the other two miss in their game, kind of like Anderson but with more IQ.

Why would Dallas trade march for a 2nd and an old guy who’s worth a second at most

I based my proposal on a rumour I saw. I also think that Marchment is more valuable than Petry and a 2nd but Dallas does need some help at RD. Petry at 2.4M is a good deal that fills an immediate need and Dallas have guys in the farm like Stankoven, Bourque and Stranges capable of filling the gap in a very near future. It also gives them 7.2M in cap space over the next 3 years as mentionned.

True. The timing to pay for top6 players is a little off this year but for 2024-25 and 25-26 seasons, while Marchment is 28-30 years old, I think we can start to be relevant and push for a playoff spot. Even if we don't, its not like I gave up the entire farm, we have 5 2nrd round picks in the next 3 drafts.

May not be a bad trade, but I really wonder if the near last place Habs would be on Marchment's trade list.

That is something I chose not to consider hehe. MTL might defintly be on his list. I do think that promises to play on the top6 on a team that is trying to be relevant as soon as possible and full of young promising talent is somehow enticing a little...
