How do you end up with Panarin at somewhere near 45% rentained and a 1st that would be higher than Carolinas next year out of this? Flames pass

Theyll say no but the value is fair imo. Just doesnt make sense for their timeline imo

Panarin has regressed for 3 years in a row, is 31 and only has a few good years left. If NY was selling id say this works quite well

This is awful for Carolina. Panarin is a noted playoff ghost, he doesn't address goal scoring woes. Selling the farm for him is fine, but then INCLUDING roster pieces? No.

Please, tell me how he is a playoff ghost? Inconsistent as all hell, sure. But 46 points in 57 playoff games suggests that he doesn’t disappear completely. And to bring him in, salary has to be moved out, and with the dcore the way it is, Skjei is the odd man out.

As for the goal scoring woes, he consistently puts up 25-30 goals, and is one of the best passers in the league. With Panarin on their line, Aho might score 40-45 goals and Jarvis could score anywhere from 30-45ish goals next year. The Canes have enough 2-way and defensive guys who can reliably cover up how useless Panarin is defensively. So while he might not address goal scoring directly, he should be able to increase the amount of goals his linemates score, both at even strength, and more importantly, the PP.

He had 2 points last year and they were in game 1. His longest barron spell of the season is in the postseason. Even when he's producing, he's not being 11 million worth of a forward.

He's a 20 goal scorer, and an elite passer. Aho's had a 45 goal pace season (pandemic) without Panarin, which already proves he doesn't need him. Banking on the kid that's never hit 20 goals to get FOURTY FIVE is absolute lunacy. I love Jarvis, be realistic. You say the Canes can cover Panarin's defensive woes because he'll help everywhere else, which is fair enough. But so would Patrick Kane and he's a free agent.

The fact you have to CLEAR space for Panarin should be indication enough it's not a good idea

How exactly has Panarin regressed for the last 3 years? Over the last 4 years, he has maintained at least a 90 point pace (over a full season, in the shortened season, he still put up 58 points in 42 games). Sure, playoffs haven’t exactly been the greatest, but he does have his consistency issues in the playoffs.

Calgary has no interest. We have 4 top 4 dmen even with Hanifin gone(Weegar Andersson Kylington Tanev) and why are WE PAYING A 1ST for assets we don't need?

I mean this is all just a moot argument I think. Its not like Panarin is looking for a change of scenery. He's still producing crazy numbers and I don't think NYR have soured on him. You may be able to convince NYR to move him if the price was right but based on my observation, I don't think Panarin himself has any desire to waive his NMC for any team at the moment. Rangers have just as much chance at cup as the Canes do so what could make Panarin want to go to Carolina when he specifically chose NY for the big city vibe? Only Panarin knows but my gut tells me he wouldn't be looking to waive right now and if he would, chances are it would be to another big city team like LAK or something.

Wait why on earth would the Rangers try to solve for 11.6 million of cap space by trading Panarin as opposed to Trouba + Goodrow???

This isn't the 2010s we are probably not going to name somebody captain and then send them away. So that's why Trouba is staying. And honestly rightfully so, because even if he didn't put up a ton of points he is defensively GREAT when he's healthy. Plus we need him in the locker room, see the "helmet throw" incident last year

Goodrow has a terrible contract but he's a proven winner at least. And played with heart, when 90% of the roster booked their golf trips before the NJ series even ended.

Plus we have too many people at LW. Panarin is blocking Lafreniere from getting more minutes. He needs to go

Panarin has flat out sucked in the playoffs. He's a detriment and I'm extremely concerned that he's holding back the team from winning the Cup. Pushing 35yo Patrick Kane with one hip did 5x more than Panarin did vs New Jersey. That's pathetic for Panarin. I don't care how many assists he gets in the reg season because he's a liability when it actually counts. If we get rid of him Lafreniere can take his spot and develop more.

I think the trade is fine if the rangers retain to max 9m cap hit then what ever else is picked up by another team. I don't think CGY would be that team. Maybe a Chicago just because panarin would be off the books when Bedard gets his extension. I don't think you get a 1st back in that situation because you're paying for the retention, so Chicago would then flip skjei for picks or prospects.
