I'm tired of waiting for the season.

So, MacDermid is the cap dump. Olofsson gets sent to the AHL but is probably the first call up. JJ is scratched.

Meanwhile, Avs sign a cheap RW UFA and accept a Toronto cap dump to strengthen their D

He’s a cap dump because the Leafs are so tight to the cap. Gotta pinch pennies wherever you can. Good player though.

Leafs have NO NHL capable Dmen with the Marlies. Timmins really has the be 7th Dmen with the Leafs, and of course with injuries he's gonna be playing with the Leafs.
Leafs have much more flexibility in moving waiver free forwards up and down with the Marlies
But lets imagine Timmins can't be on the Leafs, I would imagine the Leafs wouldn't trade and take a chance he wouldn't be claimed on waivers. Remember if claimed on waivers, that player has to be stay on the NHL roster or risk being claimed back the Leafs (in this case)

Full disclosure: I’m probably biased here because I like Timmins.

When healthy, he’s a good enough NHL player at a reasonable enough cap hit. His biggest obstacle has been his health. If he went to waivers, I would imagine that teams would take a chance on a big right shot defenseman who can skate and has a high draft pedigree. If it doesn’t work out, you waive him or bury that contract in the AHL. High upside play.

On the other hand, he’s turning 25 this year and I’m not sure if he’s had a healthy pro season yet. So as much as I like the guy, I do wonder if his value is less than a 4th.

Bringing it back to the Leafs: can they even afford to carry a 7D with the roster they constructed? I could see them valuing a player with more waiver flexibility.

    Tricky one

Plenty of NHL teams, on which, if healthy Timmins will play as regularly.

I agree. I’d have him as an every night guy in Colorado. The 7th D comment was in response to the original commenter.
