CBJ should be paying to take Gudbranson on even with a bit of retention. Trading our top prospect, a guy who we just signed, and a 3rd for a 33 year old injury prone guy isn't a great idea.

Columbus will just keep Gudbranson as their 7D this season and buy him out next summer did they’re desperate to get rid of him, which they are not. Absolutely not tying up a retention slot for three years.

Buying him out will result in 4 years of lost cap space. Much worse. 50 per cent retention is better.
